But I don't, so I have a single daily driver - which I change every 12-24 months if possible.

last spring I had to replace two AC compressors and an alternator, not to mention the battery charges, rusted brake discs, and the dogs jumping on them chasing cats.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Forgive me being British but when I read through these forums all you American guys seem to have a different car for everyday of the week! When do you get the time to drive them? My porsche stays in the garage most of the time and gets a good beating on weekends.
It is your money and you can do what you want with it but having anymore than 2 exotic cars per family seems a bit of a waste to me. You know the bit on MTV,"now let's check out my cars" and the guy has 10 motors in the driveway.
I can forgive you being British ;-) People here love cars, they like variety, and they are relatively inexpensive compared to many places in the world. Our economy is doing well at the moment, and our populace spends like crazy. I have one measley car and it is my daily driver.
but I don't think it has to do with America, I know people in the UK and Hong kong with excessive amounts of sports cars. I know they buy them because well, quite frankly, they can. It may seem like a waste to many, but if you have the money for it and are a real car enthusiast, then why not?
If I had that luxury, I know I would have AT LEAST 4-5 exotics sitting in my garage. Hell, make it 10. Monday I'd take the 430 out, Tuesday a little Carerra GT action, Wednesday DB9 or GT2? Hard choices, hard choies... hmmmmmm i could definitely get used to it
Having lived in Europe I can categorically state that owning a Porsche is a FAAARR less expensive proposition in the US. Everything from fuel to taxes (don't you just love that pesky VAT on everything) to insurance, everything is much cheaper not only in real dollars but as a % of your disposable income. On the other hand, Europeans have far better roads, national healthcare programs, and guaranteed pensions. So in some ways we're less off.
Cheers,
Since I don't have too many cars (only 4) or too many supercars (maybe 1 of the 4 unless you count the incredible utility of the Sienna for those of us who have three kids three and under
), I compensate with mad skillllzzzzzzzzzzzz
I gotz da mad skillllzzzzz
TD
Since I gotz da mad skillzzzz, I am thinking about getting the license plate frame I saw the other day on this fine piece of machinery. I felt inadquate since it made my car look so small and low
IF I had the money, I would have a car for each day of the week. But I don't, so I have a single daily driver - which I change every 12-24 months if possible.
OT - I love the license plate holder. I need to get one of those!
When I was at the Goodwood Revival, I met a number of your countrymen who had many cars. The family at the table next to us in the pavilion invited us to vist them in Bournmouth...he had his own private museum with motors such as Ayrton Senna's F1 car, two Blower Bentleys, a few Astons and other assorted vehicles with two "lads" to look after them all. Most interesting fact was that he rarely drove them, preferring his driver and the Rolls to get around. Nick Mason, Mr Bean and Mark Knofler don't exhibit much restraint either!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes you need another car for a special purpose as shown in the pic with the fine gentlemen below... and sometimes there's more in the driveway than just parked trucks and weeds...
OK one more for my line of work. If your airplane gets a flat and you fix it with a tire off of your house you might be a redneck

care4era,
I agree with you. At one point, I was planning to buy a collection of high-end super exotics (F-40, Carrera GT, a couple of Lambo's etc) and then it occurred to me "Gee, this would really be a waste of capital" so I decided to stick with my 911.
Hey, care4era, I'm a lost Southerner living (for the past 15 years) in Germany, which is slightly west of you. Now granted I live in a pretty swanky town, supposed highest numbers of millionaires per capita in Germany, however, the locals here use their Porsche autos as their drivers and keep the *real* stuff in the Garage for the warm & sunny weekends. The school girl I drive home everyday (her folks drive my son in the morning) have an S Benz, a G Benz, a Grand Cherokee, and they sold the Porsche to buy a Continental GT... Guy up the street has a 70's Maserati Bora (garage queen) a BMW M5, and a VW Golf GTi.. Ain't just a US thing far as I can tell
This is one of those statements that cracks me up
You could probably make the case (and I'm sure 90% of the world would agree) that having ANY exotic is a waste.
Having said that, if you have the money for more than one, like them and want them, why is 3 or 4 more of a waste than 1 or 2? I mean if you have $50 mil or $100 mil in the bank, who cares how many $200K cars you have?
Mark
He has a point. I have 5 cars and a Harley and only the 996 gets driven enough. last spring I had to replace two AC compressors and an alternator, not to mention the battery charges, rusted brake discs, and the dogs jumping on them chasing cats. I had to have one painted this spring already and the fender on another needs serious attention. But I'm still looking for that 911SC to add to the collection. Glad I'm not in the UK, I wouldn't be able to afford half of them over there.
Hey, I stilton. Must be from the west country
From Winchester myself.
Living in the vaderland. Although I love German cars German society is a bit weird for me, apart from Berlin where I go sometimes on a nice 4 hour trip on ze autobhan. Weird thing about Germans they spend all thier cash on cars and rent apartments. I think they have the lowest house ownership in Western Europe. The Austrians are the same when it comes to cars, truely insane car people and also truely insane in an **** way.
Germans are more crazy about cars than any nation on earth. I have german sat in Prague and 9 times out of 10 I turn on a German channel and there is some auto program on
I got a nice Bimma as well. Never drive it as I like the porsche more and I only get time on the weekends for that, so me having another 5 motors is just a waste even though I got the cash for more. Heh, give the spare cash to some African kids or buy a plane. Anyone got a jet here? Now that would be way cool.
care4era: *from Berlin where I go sometimes on a nice 4 hour trip on ze autobhan* ...
get off the Autobahn in the state of Brandenburg and explore some of the back roads (they all lead to Berlin eventually). I got lost around Cottbus (what a Hell-Hole that place is) and discovered a wonderful 3 mile straight with Italian poplars on both sides of the road. Couple of dips and bumps to keep you awake (was driving my FIL's Cadillac El Dorado at the time, 'cause he's a Berlin man but 80 years old) and then we hit the lake country... Wonderful stuff. It gets flat as you approach Berlin and the soil/earth changes on account of it being buried a couple of times under an ice sheet way back when. Yep, the Germans do enjoy their autos. The Porsche Zentrum Frankfurt has a restored to new condition 550 as well as a wonderful red Porsche tractor....
