Quite simply, unlike new vehicles, used vehicles just have too many variables to consider: (1) what did the dealer "pay" for the vehicle; (2) what is the regional market price for the particular vehicle -- how "hot" is that car; (3) what did the dealer have to pay to get it into CPO condition (e.g., repairs, tires, etc .

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What type of discount can one expect when purchasing a pre-owned 996 (CPO) from the dealer? For example, if car lists at $55K, what does that really mean in terms of a bottom line price. Got about 9.5% off my '06 Cayenne S, and I see on the 997 board people are reporting anywhere from $1,000 to $5000 of the sticker on new 997. I am looking at pre-owned 996's and I am wondering what kind of discount is reasonable off of what the dealer is asking.

People could give you answers, but they will not mean anything or help you. Know the value of what you are purchasing, and negotiate from there.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear you...but I am looking for a range...based on people's experience here.

POST 5Original post

I looked at an 02 with 32K on it and the asking price was $51,500. The dealer was willing to go $48,900.

POST 6Original post

Purchased highly optioned CPO'd 2001 996 in August 2005 w/26K on the odometer. Dealer was asking 54,900; Paid 46,000 Passed PPI with flying colors. Love the car, but probably got just an average deal. Put on 7K to date and a smile every time I head down a back road. Best advice from this board, was to "drive it like you stole it, wear a thong while you're doing it ! "

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks It's very helpful to know that deals of that type could be had on dealer CPO cars. Just the info I am looking for when deciding between dealer and private party sale. Can you share name of the dealer.

POST 8Original post

the key as TD mentioned it's how much the dealer has in the car. I bought a preowned BMW for 8k less than the "asking" price a few years ago. I've been in the market for an 04 996 or 05 997 and I've seen asking prices drop by 5k after the car remains in stock for too long. I would low ball on the car you may find and when you're ready to buy wait until the end of the month, like this weekend. Good luck!

POST 9Original post

Everything's negotiable. The asking price on my '04 C4S with literally 1000 miles was $79.9K. I got the deal done, with enclosed shipping and CPO for $76.3K MSRP was approximately $90K.
