Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well- I traded my 996 in today for an 06 BMW 550. I've owned 4 porsches (3 Boxsters and a 99 996 you can see at www.garagenut.com . The car faithfully served me through 81,000 miles and traveled with me from Florida to Chicago and back to Boston. The last time I was changing the oild I noticed small metal flecks in the filter housing and decided to get out of it before the inevitable. Shortly there after I noticed strange noises coming from the engine. I must say I love the power and handeling of the 550 (the thing is a rocket and a great compromise between the 545 and the M5) but I will miss this board and all the grat help and advice you all have given me over the years. Again thanks everyone. Regards Ben

POST 2Original post

Good luck with the 5. Does the dealer know about the failing engine? Was the 996 new when you bought it? Did you service it religiously?

POST 3Original post

djantlive: Did you service it religiously? I kinda get down on my knees when I check the dip-stick oil level... Is that what you mean? (insert emoticon here)
