I have not done a lot of mods to the 996, save wheels and clear side markers; however, I will be and I will use the techniques I learned with my 944 and Boxster.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was thinking, which I try not to do too often, that maybe we could have a thread of things to do and not to do with your 996. This may help some new owners and people considering a 996 without having to do an extensive search of the site... ie. how long to wait until you drive off....how to spot problems potential problems....how to hide a mod from your wife...etc...etc... Maybe some of the seasoned vets of this site can put their $.02 in and make this work. I've owned my 996 for years and have still learned a good bit from the people on this site...it would be great to consolidate some of this info into one thread... Don't know if this has been done before...if it has please disregard or call me an idiot for not doing a search! Something to make everyone laugh will also be accepted...and encouraged...

POST 2Original post

OK I'm game. Rule Number 1: Do not buy a used 996 from a Ford Dealership.

POST 3Original post

Woody, great idea. I have not done a lot of mods to the 996, save wheels and clear side markers; however, I will be and I will use the techniques I learned with my 944 and Boxster. First I tell my wife the mod is going to cost 3 times what it does, I also tell her I have to have it or the car is not safe when I put it on the track. Then after she stews on it I tell her I worked really hard and found it at a price that is 1/2 of what it costs. She gets so confused that she just gives up. She has no Idea and I plan to keep her in the dark. I guess addicts use similar techniques.

POST 4Original post

DO Not Drop the clutch in first gear at 6000 RPM while standing Still. Do drive allot and don't let it become a gargage queen Do mod the **** out of it...

POST 5Original post

I can see this thread is going nowhere...Who needs approval from the wife for mods? You must be joking!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Unfortunately I do because my wife and I share everything including our money... I agree my tip was stupid...but like I said...maybe some people have some good info to add to the thread...

POST 7Original post

If I needed the wife's approval I would not even have a P-Car. I just like to keep her confused so she does not ask questions. Life is easier with out a ticked off wife. It is kind of like poking a caged Lion.

POST 8Original post

OK then back to advice for our interested readers....Remove Rennlist and 6speedonine from your browser forever or you will turn into a modaholic (like me).

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Alright...maybe it wasn't such a good post...I'll go ahead and ban myself for the weekend

POST 10Original post

Rule #2 hiding mods from your wife shrinks your *****

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

lol..I guess wross was right, this thread is going no where...

POST 12Original post

Rule #3, not hidding them can cause you not to use it.

POST 14Original post

DO Change your brake fluid before you go out to the track...

POST 16Original post

Do... realize you are considered rich, uppish, etc.. now that you are a Pcar owner.. Don't... care..

POST 17Original post

Don't.... tell your wife the web address of Rennlist, if she ever finds it... you are toast!

POST 18Original post

I just buy the mods, inform her and then she just gives me the look.....I point at her ring finger and give her a look back....point at her hair and give her another look. I guess when you are married you don't talk anymore...you just give each other looks! I she complains about me spending too much time in the garage I ask her if she prefers me to hang out in a bar....!! Just keep making enough and they wil be agreable! Other important points: keep checking rennlist for more mod options, keep checking your oil/coolant level, make sure your tires are inflated properly for those sharp corners, and drive slow until needle points at 180!! AND PUT MILES ON THE CAR otherwise it is the dumbest investment you ever made in your life!! because the moment you drive it out of the dealership you lost 5K

POST 19Original post

DO NOT not adscribe to the thinking that a "real" P-car has to have round headlights and/or be aircooled DO enjoy the uniqueness of the 996 and that it marked the beginning of another great era in the on-going history of the 911

POST 20Original post

my wife says she would rather have a Porsche in the driveway rather than a mistress in the bedroom

POST 21Original post

And even with the mods the Porsche is cheaper!

POST 22Original post

a mistress in her bedroom??? HMMMMM sounds a lot like a couple of girlfriends I once had...YEARS ago ofcourse when I lived in Amsterdam...where else!! To keep it in rennlist style..I was driving a white 928S......great car!!!
