POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I just bought a set of lobster wheels for my 996 Aero. Its a 2001 C2 Manual. Here is a picture of one of the front wheels I bought. They are 19x8 et 57 and 19x11 et 67. I am told that they will just bolt on without issue. 1. Should I get spacers and are they needed? Some people say that they aren't needed, but I just want to make sure. 2. What tires should I be running? I was thinking that I should run 235/35 19 and 295/30 19. I have seen people running 305s in the rear and different sizes in the front. I am currently running 225/40 18 and 285/30 18 on my stock wheels. The car has Bilstein B6s and I have H&R sport springs. The springs are going on over the winter. I will be putting all season tires on the 18s. I am trying to achieve this look: 3. The wheels have some rash on them. I will be re-finishing them. My girlfriend is thinking about changing the color, maybe to the OZ racing anthracite color. I know that its personal opinion, but thoughts on changing from the OE silver? Thank you. I'm trying to have this done, springs/wheels/tires, over the winter. I just would like to do it once without issues, like rubbing or problems with alignment.

POST 2Original post

I like the higher contrast in your example pic with the bright claws. I also like black for the silver car, but with claws? I don’t know. For me the anthracite dulls down the car, as-is. No spacers required for rear, at least 7mm on front. I also have 997 wheels on mine.

POST 3Original post

I have tried 997 wheels on my 996 but for some reason they always look to big for me.....I don't understand why because its essentially the same chassis as the 997. While your cars look great, I think I prefer 18s....perhaps you need 25's on rear to make the tires less tall and 30s in the front.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15325145

What size tires? That looks nice. Did the front rub without the spacers? So far I've seen guys using 295/30 19, 305/30 19, and 315/25 19 for the rear tires.

POST 5Original post

I am running 235/35/19 on 8 1/2 ET 50 Front, 295/30/19 on ET64 Rear with no rubbing issues. I think if I had spacers I may get some rubbing. The 295 rears are already .9" larger in dia than front and 305's would be 1.5" larger in dia than front so will stay with the 295's.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15326924

Thank you. So a 7mm spacer would put me where you are with the front wheels. How do you like the 19s? This is just a street car. I emailed wheel dynamics about my questions. If they feel that spacers are needed for the wheels, I'm hoping to just purchase through them.

POST 7Original post

997 19's are perfect on the 996 if you get the right tire size and offset. 315/25/19 rears with 235/35/19 fronts. 19x11 +67 (With 15mm Spacer to make it +52) and 19x8 +57 (With 15mm Spacer to make it +42). Lowered on RUF/Bilstein. No rub at all.

POST 8Original post

My car originally came with Lobster wheels. 2002 C2 front 235 35 19 and rear 305 30 19 Michelin's Had to remove front spacers because of rubbing.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 15332824, 15331953

What wheel sizes/et are you running that caused rubbing with spacers? That looks great. What tires? Toyo? I am only seeing one tires made in that tire size.

POST 11Original post

Never checked offset....where can I find that info. Only fronts rubbed when turning. I still have spacers, I will check size.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found this at the local Porsche dealer. Pretty useful for seeing whats available. I will be going with 295 rears and the P-Zeros.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 15331897

Not sure about the spacers, my tires are just inside the lip that are rolled and if I remember, I believe the 996.1 do not have the lip rolled. On your wheel guide, I for one do not see the need for N spec tires. I could see it you tracked the car and wanted a tire that has been tested by Porsche then go with the N spec. I am running the Bridgestone Potenza S-O4 and am very happy with them, They have a nice lip around the wheel so has saved me a couple of times in parking with wheel rash.

POST 14Original post

@diddy2003 Could you please share the page with the 18" size tyres on it? I know they are roughly the same but I'd like to see it Cheers

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a little thread bump. I just got them back from Automobile Associates in Canton, CT. They came out very nice. My friend had a set of Bridgestone N0 in 235/35 19 and 295/30 19, which will be mounted probably tomorrow. The tires are take-offs with less than 1000 miles. A picture from Automobile Associates, which always seems to have a bunch of nice cars. The only thing left is the spacer question for the front wheels. What are people running for the fronts? I was told that they aren't needed, but I don't want the car to look weird either. I might just pull the trigger on 7mm spacers, but I'd rather get this right the first time. Some of my friend's cars just for fun. There will be a cars and coffee later this summer. If anyone lives in the Rte 2 area of western MA, it should be a good time.

Just depends on your current wheel offset For me with ET40 at the front and ET63 in the back I couldn't run 5mm spacers - they had to come off.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15715518

Thank you. I believe that the stock front wheels are 18x8 et 50. The wheels I am putting on are 19x8 et 57. I called up ECS Tuning and they recommended going with a hub-centric wheel spacer, to prevent vibration. So I pulled the trigger on their 10mm spacers, since that is the smallest spacer they offer that is also hub-centric. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...001366ecs10kt/

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 15325172

Same here. I dont like modern generations wheels on previous cars. I rather prefer an aftermarket wheel, or keep attached to the generation models. Your car looks perfect with the 18" turbo look IMHO Regarding your questions, if the lobsters are from a narrow body, they will fit. If they are from a wide body I think you will have problems. The size of the tires that you have mentioned are the ones I am using on my 19", but it is a C4S (the 18" original tire has different size). They will fit on the wheel, but try to go for that measure more close to the equivalent with your actual 18 wheel+tire set

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15716963

I know what you mean about keeping OEM wheels, but I've always really liked the look of the lobsters. I will be buying all-season tires for the Turbo Twists. It will be nice to have a winter set of wheels/tires. The new tires are mounted up. The 295 rears are pretty badass looking. I can't wait to get them on. The new springs will be installed when the new wheels/spacers are put on. The new wheel/tires have nearly the same exact diameter of the stock wheel/tires. https://tiresize.com/ comparison/ I will probably run the silver centers.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will hopefully be done this week or early next week.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car is very planted now. Good steering through turns. It feels like a big difference for the better, firmer but not too harsh. It is definitely stiffer, but it’s not abusive. It feels perfect, feels nimble and light in turns, planted. Feels at the right height just sitting in it. It felt kind lazy before. Not bad, but before there was a lot more movement side to side. Now it feels way more dialed in. My buddy has a lot of GT3s of different generations. Now it feels closer to his 997.1 GT3. No roll and very direct. Having said all that, it’s firmer, so I pay way more attention to avoiding pot holes. And that’s just with the driving. It looks WAY better in person. From the rear the tires look massive and badass. The spacers in the front were the perfect choice and the stance looks great. I’ve very happy with it. I looked up wheel weights and came up with these numbers. Stock Turbo Look Wheels Front 18x8: 26 lb 4 oz Rear 18x10: 31 lb 15 oz Lobster Front 19x8: 22 lb 4 oz Rear 19x11: 27 lb 12 oz Savings of approximately 16 pounds of rotating mass.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rainy day drive but this car has been transformed it seems. Bilstein B6s, H&R, new brakes, and the wheels/tires. Very responsive and planted. Highly recommended.

POST 31Original post

I too am looking at purchasing some new wheels. The seller has a set of Avant Garde 19 inch wheels with 235/35/19 (front) and 295/30/19 (rear) Potenzas on them. He is a fellow Porsche owner and had them on his 05 Carrera. I'm pretty sure they will fit my 04 Targa but just want to be sure.

POST 32Original post

@diddy2003 Wheels look phenomenal by the way.

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 16141803, 16142128

I don't see any reason why the tires wouldn't fit, but its all offset with the wheels. With the 10 mm spacers, my wheels fit perfectly. They are 19x8 ET57 w/ 235/35 19. The rears are a tight fit. 19x11 et 67, no spacers, and 295/30 19. There isn't a lot of space left with the larger tires. I couldn't go in any farther, due to the tires already rubbing with the car lifted, or out, as the tires would rub on the body. Thank you! I think they transformed the look of the car.

POST 34Original post

Wheels look great. Aero 996.1 is rad. I managed to put a 15mm spacer on my 19x11 et67 with no rubbing, but 996.2 has a bit more room. Did you notice the lighter weight wheels? Although not sure, maybe netted out even being larger width tires.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16156642

I really dont know how you fit the 15 mm spacers. There must be a lot more space with .2. My tires slightly rubbed without spacers on the outside, even with the fenders rolled. I actually just rolled them even more, in the front side of the opening, to prevent that from happening again. I have no more room on the inside. With the car unloaded, on a jack, the tire rests on the inner support. Basically, I have to jack up the car, and then load the rear axle, to get the wheels off. It is a very tight fit with the larger wheel and tire. The car felt instantly more nimble and responsive with the wheels. I should have weighted the stock wheels/tires to compare with these, but the new ones are definitely lighter overall. I still have both sets complete. I will do that when I get a chance for comparison purposes. In regards to the driving with the wheels, I did the suspension at the same time, so hard to narrow it down to just the wheels being the difference. Combined, the car feels WAY better. That could be for many reasons, like tired suspension, but it feels way better now.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 15488376

Old post quote, but I just 2 weeks ago put PS2s on my C4S and holy crap... I'd read here so many times over that they were "comparable" to the Sumitomo III's I had on my car, and what a joke. It's night and day difference in every way imaginable. I wish I'd known or listened to better advice, and I would have swapped them out a long time ago, even though they still had some life left. Expensive yes, but, they make the driving experience so much better it's pretty much worth it. New tyres usually do that!

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 16155994

I agree, it looks awesome. It would be great if you could post before & after from the same angle if you have photos. Excellent choice on the silver wheel paint. I like the OZ anthracite color in the abstract a lot -- would have been similarly tempted -- but, on the car, silver looks a lot better.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16157433

The day I test drove it: Thank you. The color of the car has like a slight blue to it, and the silver wheels suited it better. If it was arctic silver, maybe anthracite would have been better, but Im happy with the factory silver color for the wheels. Also, as a bonus, they are super easy to clean. I can fit my hand all the way inside to clean the barrels. Fast and easy to clean them up.

POST 39 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A few pictures from a nice drive up to VT yesterday with my buddy and his E63s. The suspension, spacers, wheel and tire setup continues to perform great. I dont think I could go any lower than I did with the H&R springs. I have to be very careful with my driveway as the front will rub if I dont pay attention and take my time, and its not even very steep.

Looking good, the lobsters are 19s, right? I've always liked the look I just can't bring myself to go over 18.

Correct, they are 19s. I really like them. Only way I'd go back to 18s are if I find a set of 996.2 GT3 or BBS LMs cheap, which isn't probably happening.
