When you say the window doesn't randomly automatically reseal, are you referring to the auto up function not raising the window with one click or are you referring to the indexing feature with lowers the window an inch when you open the door and raises it back up when you close the door?

BAT) must adhere to the laws regarding the auctions, but these are used cars and if you don't like to the risks, then you need to buy from a dealership that can offer a CPO warranty.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Me - Even though I had photos and witnessed to packing the item and demonstrating that it was working, the buyer complained it didn't work.
One of those seems "too good to be true" examples without IMS/RMS symptoms (still OE), report of no cylinder scoring and good maintenance records. The negatives are a drivers side window that doesn't randomly automatically reseal and an rear end accident without air bag deployment nor structural damage. Has Tiptronic with 83k miles. My hesitation lies in not being able to see the car in person due to the owner conveniently being out of town until just after the offer expiration, seems fishy. If purchased and I decide not to take delivery after seeing in person I take a buyers commission hit, if purchased it seems like a strong buy.
Does anyone go out on this limb or let someone else play roulette with it?
Keith
I wouldn't buy a 911 that took a rear hit unless I could get a PPI done on the car. With 83K without a bearing swap out, you'd need to figure that into the equation too. With a PPI, not only would they look closely at the rear end for any problem areas, but they'd also scope the cylinders to confirm the condition of the cylinders. Without a bore scope evaluation, then it's just opinion, nothing more. You buy it and then inherit the cost of a rebuild. They'll also looks closely for camshaft deviations and the health of the cylinders from a firing standpoint as well as fuel trim. On and on it goes.
Just remember, the cheapest Porsches are the most expensive.
Thanks for the insight on all.
To clarify, there's already a bore scope report noting zero scoring and I've factored the IMS cost into the equation for piece of mind.

Keith, this is the white C4S on BAT, correct? That car will probably sell for a lot more on BAT. Expect to pay more like $20K - $25K because the Carrera White C4S are very hard to come by IMHO.

I don't see a current report to confirm there isn't scoring at the present time. Remember, cylinder bore scoring could show it's *** within the last year of ownership. The current owner/seller doesn't have a current report, just an opinion from one of the previous owners. Bad. The seller should have paid to have a bore scope evaluation carried out. He should at least post a video recording the sound from bank 2 at idle. If it ticks, then I'd pass. Just ask 32WildBilly about his C4S.
That's the best advice I could give you.
Ok Prof. seems to be right about this car being on BAT. Therefore, I agree the car will not be bought for $17k. The reported accident was in 2006 so a long time ago. IMSB do whatever you would be comfortable with doing or not doing. No bore scoring should be confirmed as it seems to have been done pre 2018. I can't see ever buying these cars without physically seeing the car and having an intrusive PPI done, but maybe that's just me...
The window sealing issue is likely a window motor that needs to be re-programmed. Pretty simple fix that can be done by you. You can find the reset procedure online if you decide to purchase the vehicle.
Let's unpack this a bit. When you say the window doesn't randomly automatically reseal, are you referring to the auto up function not raising the window with one click or are you referring to the indexing feature with lowers the window an inch when you open the door and raises it back up when you close the door?
Unless this one ticks all the boxes I wouldn't rush into it. Damage doesn't necessarily scare me, I've said it before not all accidents or damage get reported anyway but not being able to see it in person and being rushed usually doesn't end well.
Who sells a car while they are out of town? Sounds like a scam. Priced low enough to seem like a deal, but high enough that it's not an obvious scam. I wouldn't send any money without laying eyes on it.
Remember, folks this is an auction. There is NO set price. Bidders determine the end the value and if there is no reserve, then winner takes all. Regarding the "scam" thoughts, from what I've read here on RL, BringATrailer gets to decide with the auction goes public. Therefore, it's highly likely the seller had scheduled travel plans which is very likely is our world today. Many sellers would accommodate an on-site inspection, but based on my previous car sells, there are a lot of people that would love nothing more than to waste your time and efforts.
I didn't realize this was a BAT listing. I would assume it is legit. Still surprised the seller isn't available for inspections. I would not bid top dollar on a sight unseen car.
Thanks for everyone's input, I passed after it went over $20k. There's all the negatives listed above as well as the car being in New England for 6 years and serviced by a Ford dealership. The Carfax shows inspections and services in the winter months so it wasn't a "summer car". I'll let someone else go out on a limb for this one and keep hunting.
I'm not sold on the BAT process anyway as there doesn't seem to be any buyer protections. A buyers fee of $1,250 is charged for the $25k selling price and then BAT exchanges email address with the seller/buyer. I can't find any documentation on BAT's website where if the seller never responds or there's any other issue not listed in the auction that said fee is refunded. Only that all inspections etc. should be performed prior to the auction ending. Does anyone have additional info. or experience with BAT?
Thanks
Keith
Bought my C4S on BAT about 6 months ago without issues.
I attribute most of the smooth transaction to the seller as he was very good at commicating about any details during inspection and transportation.
Car was in Thousand Oaks and I'm in Portland.
BAT fees a bit high for my liking but falling in love with the car was a bit blinding. Also transportation cost was another extra......but again I wanted this car.
Had a friend in the area take a look at the basics.....checking to see if there truly was a car.....did it run/idle....was is presented as advertised.
BAT was hands off after the sale; their only job after sale was to provide sellers e-mail. Again all depends on seller, if their on point should be no issues.
My worry with BAT is zero buyer protection for the 5% premium. There's the potential BAT gets their money and the buyer is left hung out to dry, quite the premium just to view a webpage!! Hell at least on ebay there's no buyer's fee AND you get buyer protection.
Thank you for your input and I'm glad the transaction went well for you! The only way I'll consider using it in the future is if the sale is local and I know the car and seller's whereabouts prior to the end of the auction.
Keith
It's well known that eBay is buyer centric and that turns away many sellers. My wife and I have an eBay account and have sold lots of stuff on eBay. Unfortunately, we have almost stopped using it because of buyers manipulating the system -
Just a couple of the many examples I've experienced -
"The item is not as described"
Me - I had 12 photographs and a full description along with the correct brand, model number, and serial number. The auction was 10 days and the buyer NEVER contacted me about questions. But then somehow the item wasn't as described. What???? I offered a refund as long as they returned it, but the buyer didn't want to pay for return shipping. They filed a claim.
eBay's response - full refund and pay for return shipping and original shipping. (which costs more than the winning bid) PayPal automatically deducted it.
"I received the item and it doesn't work"
Me - Even though I had photos and witnessed to packing the item and demonstrating that it was working, the buyer complained it didn't work. The buyer was in Italy. It would cost 3x to just ship it back. PayPal still refunded their money anyway and they got to keep the item. Again, if I refunded the money, Ebay requires that the seller pay for ALL shipping which would cost MORE than the item was worth. Ugh!
I've never sold anything on BAT, but at least they don't nail the seller when buyers play the victim.
Sorry Keith, but don't play the "buyer protection" thing with me. It's an auto auction. Plain and simple. They (i.e. BAT) must adhere to the laws regarding the auctions, but these are used cars and if you don't like to the risks, then you need to buy from a dealership that can offer a CPO warranty.
I don't sell much on auction sites anymore, I started using Ebay 16 or so years again and now I barely use it. I was leery selling some computer parts recently I figured those are so easy to claim issues with. The one time I tried to sell a car on there it was the last time. I had a Ford Expedition, guy agreed to a price then ghosted and left me feedback saying the car was rotted out. Legitimately never even saw it in person and it was not rusted at all.
I have had cars on bat where mid auction ( and at half price) some moron contacts me thinking that is the actual price of the car and he thinks it would be fair if the price barely went up because it’s what “he thinks” yeah it goes both ways. Every used car is buyer beware no matter what, where, or when. Bat doesn’t change that fact at all. Now when I put cars on bat it takes up to 5 weeks. Of course I end up to be out of town and get slammed because I am “avoiding” someone when the car goes Iive and they want to see it. Those bat people are greedy and bite off more than they can chew. But if you are willing to put in the work you can usual get top dollar and get it quickly.
i have no clue what you mean my buyer protection. On eBay motors cars are a 50 dollar flat listing fee and PayPal is not involved. You think they are gonna bail you out from a lemon? You are absolutely naive and uninformed. You can file lawsuits as much as you want and eBay will bury you. It’s buyer beware on cars unless you get a written warranty. Any bum can put up a listing on a car and eBay is gonna warranty it for you? Lolololol
Exactly! The winning buyer can leave negative feedback against the seller, but NOT vice versa. They can even leave feedback if the sale is cancelled, but they must win the auction in the first place. eBay's choice to remove the seller's ability to leave negative feedback gives the buyer more leverage to threaten the seller into their demands. How many times have you heard, "If you don't _____, I'm going to file a claim and give you negative feedback".
I even had some moron threaten to give me negative feedback when I decided to cancel an auction. I told him to go ahead and try, but he didn't realize that you had to actually win the auction to give feedback. Idiot! Then he threatened to "call eBay" and I again explained that it was within eBay rules to cancel an auction early. I followed up a week later and asked, "How'd that phone call go with eBay, hmmm???" hahaha crickets. No response.
Knowledge is power. But there is still too many risks when selling expensive items on eBay especially selling internationally.
Absolutely! Every buyer must know that there is little or no consumer protection on used car sales. AS-IS means exactly that and unless there is evidence of fraud, it's your car, period. Never drive a car off the dealer lot or buy a car at auction unless you're absolutely sure you want that car. Many states have even eliminated cooling off laws. Your best protection is a professional inspection!
Ebay Purchase Protection as listed on vehicle auctions paid for a repair in my case without hesitation. Open any auto auction on ebay and click the $100,000 Purchase Protection link for a self education. Until then you're actually the "uninformed" one in the matter "Lolololol".
Tell us more, please. You have my curiosity. What was the model and year of the car. What were the circumstances that caused you to request compensation?
I've done 14 auctions on BaT as a seller. It's always an adventure dealing with the Peanut Gallery. I offer bidders the opportunity for a PPI (at their expense) but no one ever takes me up on that.
Yep, ebay gives their own warranty on any car. Sounds absurd to me. When my 996 engine blows someday I will setup an auction on it and sell it to a buddy. He can get ebay purchase protection to fix the car for 20k and sell it back to me. That is hilarious.
Porscheby40 I have done 8 auctions on bat. Only 2 people have every come to see a car in the flesh. I live in California (San Diego, and Monterey) So its not like I live in the middle of nowhere. I think I have had maybe 5 people hit the "contact seller" button and ask a question. What a joke that site has become...
