Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

FWIW, I used the paintless dent repair / touch-up guy, and it was $375 for the repaint.

For rubber marks, I've also had great luck with simple cleaning wax and claying, both of which are a lot less effort than polishing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On the highway the other day and car in front swerves towards the divider and runs over a very large, long piece of 18 wheeler tread, it flies up and hits my left front nose, and whips across the left front quarter, leaving rubber marks and some scratches on the nose, bit of the left front hood, lens of the headlight, front left edge of the wheel well, etc. Before I go for a quote of a repaint, does anyone have any suggestions for removal of the rubber markings? It's a Lapis Blue 03' C4S. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I am always surprised how MUCH you can get out with simple polish (now wax mind you) I have a Griot's Garage orbital polish machine and for fun tried it out on my wife's car. She has plenty of little areas that have been "adjusted" by one thing or another... a curb, a bank drive up pole, other cars, and shopping carts as well as just everyday stuff.. I took the finest polish I had just to let me son (age 10) use the orbital, and to my surprise it took many many mnay of the marks out of her car... My suggestion is to try this and see...(there are hand polishes too, but require elbow greese) GL Post pics! Ed

POST 3Original post

+1 on the polish. Something as simple as tar/bug remover might work as well. I usually use that first when I come back from track events.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice. I've got a suite of PS21 prods, which I will give a go with, and then try the bug/tar remover too. Enjoy the long weekend.

POST 5Original post

For rubber marks, I've also had great luck with simple cleaning wax and claying, both of which are a lot less effort than polishing. Just remember that claying will remove your wax/sealant, so you'll need to wax or seal after. For scratches, +1 on orbital and fine polish.

Consider yourself lucky. I had one hit me last week and it completely jacked up the paint on my front bumper. Mine had to be repainted. I was lucky the tire didn't roll under my car and rip off a radiator... FWIW, I used the paintless dent repair / touch-up guy, and it was $375 for the repaint. AND it looks as good as new. Very pleased with result and price. -td

POST 8Original post

Clay bar and polish will surely do the trick, unless there are dents which will be removed by hand. Presumably this is all a body shop will do if you take the car there, repainting is generally considered an extreme measure. Since you asked the question, i'm assuming you don't know much about compounding, polishing, etc. A body shop might be the best solution however if you are inclined to get into detailing (and fix this problem yourself) check out http://www.topoftheline.com/
