Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked the wiring diagram...it does not appear they are programmable on the 996....they are just hard wired connections...

My understanding is that it wont work if you replace the existing bulbs with LEDs.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I have a Foxwell 510 and it didn't work on my '99 C2 or my '06 Cayenne though.
Turning left at an intersection last night I was nearly t-boned by an F150 driver who didn't realize I was turning. Assume it was because of a set of factors including that my 1999 front side markers do not flash (he kindly returned the middle finger salute that I presented him with, so reasonable conclusion is that he didn't think I had turn signals activated at all).
Anyway, going to do this mod to wire them up to flash, seems like a safety improvement.

Wondering about the pros/cons of doing this.
Make no assumption about what he thought....even when they KNOW they've done something wrong, people will flip you off. Sounds like a good idea...may look into this one.
They will alternate when parking lights are on due to the grounding through the turn signal bulb. Looks like it is basically removing the permanent body ground from the side marker light and jumping it through the respective turn signal.
When parking lights are not turned on, the switched 12v to the bulb rests at ground and illuminates when receiving the +12v from the parking light.
When parking lights are turned on, the switched +12v goes hot and the ground is coming through the turn signal bulb filament - interrupted when turn signal is turned on, thus alternating with the turn signal only with parking lights on.
It doesn't appear this circuit would work properly if you have LED side markers or LED turn signal bulbs up front currently - unless they are non-polar specific.
I regularly take my kids with me, so safety first, every time. Not an oncoming traffic scenario. Arterial with a cross street, basically 4 way intersection scenario. I was in motion on an arterial, he was stopped at a stop sign at my 9 o'clock pointing at my drivers door. I signaled to turn left which would be into the lane next to where he was stopped his going opposite direction from him. He must have thought I was going to continue straight on the arterial and intended to merge in behind me. In the guy's defense, the location he was stopped at had a decline toward the back of his truck, so visibility for him was probably partially obscured. Plus it was dark out.
Maybe the wife was right that silver is not the best color for safe driving in Seattle rain at night. Maybe I am just gonna have to trade up for one in speed yellow. Either that or better illumination. Decisions decisions.
I don't particularly like the alternating blinking described when the lights are on either, and will look into if there exist LED options or 2-ways for this application, thanks
So not sure if this work on our cars but it works on jeeps that dont have blinking side markers. U basical reduce the voltage to the bulbs by putting a resistor in line for the running lights. This dims the light. Then u add the blinker wire in and put diods on both so they dont back feed.
Part list from the jeep site with radio shack part numbers that dont mean anything now

I would also like this feature but there's no way I'm hacking up my stock wiring to do it. I've found anecdotal evidence that this can be programmed with PIWIS or Durametric Pro and a 997 guy was able to do it with a Foxwell 510. I have a Foxwell 510 and it didn't work on my '99 C2 or my '06 Cayenne though. I still plan to try programming it with a Durametric Pro or PIWIS if an opportunity comes up.
Forward to 10:40 for side marker blinker coding.

And if this was the case, why wouldn't he have seen your turn signal (that's on the front of your car)? What does this have to do with the side marker?
I did the blinking side marker lights mod about 9 years ago and have never had a problem with it. It's also easily reversible. My understanding is that it wont work if you replace the existing bulbs with LEDs.
