Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello - I have a 2000 996 C2 (took delivery in 10/99) with about 31k miles on it. Never been in an accident nor had any issues with the vehicle (other than not driving it enough to keep the battery charged). I recently took out my user manuals and looked through them and saw in the back of maintenance booklet a section on "Air bag supplemental restraint system schedule maintenance" in intervals from "4 yrs of operation" to "16 yrs of operation." I can't recall having the airbag system ever being checked - is this something that should be replaced? I've had the car for 20 yrs. (Apologies if this is answered somewhere within this forum - my search did not find anything.)
Thanks,
Seattle, WA USA
No. The only thing to check is whether the airbag light is on meaning a fault in the airbag system(s). If the airbag fault light is off, and there are no system errors, there is nothing else to do.
The "Air bag supplemental restraint system schedule maintenance" consists of checking the seat belt buckles and retractors (retractors have pyrotechnics in them to lock during a crash), checking for any objects , emblems ect. stuck to the steering wheel, passenger air bag or door air bags that could cause injury if deployed. Checking for fault codes or DME crash signal. Checking and activating roll-over bars on Cabriolet cars then resetting roll-over bars.
"
Why don't you drive it more?"
It was a custom factory order I made (I wanted all leather interior in black with silver accents and no gold color anywhere except the hood badge which the silver and black version was not an option) as a gift to myself for finishing grad school. By far the most I'll ever spend on a car. I don't drive it much because I settled down - family. The wife doesn't drive a manual, and it's not a kid-friendly car. So it's a rare day when I can drive it. But I can't seem to part with it.
Thanks everybody for the replies - nice to know this forum is available.
