Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I installed the headlight again, it flickered and then turned on...I'm hoping it was a loose connection.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2003 C2 coupe - I'm new to the Porsche scene
The passenger side was not on....
I removed the headlight (so easy to do)
saw a ballast marked:
Xenon-Light 12V
996631 183-00
D2S D2R
Hella
When I installed the headlight again, it flickered and then turned on...I'm hoping it was a loose connection.
But when I search that part number...I get results for $700 from suncoast and other dealers and also ebay hits for $100
what would I need if my light was to go bad?
The ballasts are typically not the failure vs. the bulb. Your car likely had Osram 4300K bulbs from the factory. Pick your poison for replacements. The prices begin at $6 from ebay and go to ~$40 for Morimotos in the aftermarket world. Then there's genuine factory replacements. Improperly seated headlight will definitely cause a light to malfunction, listen for the click when it goes into place.
Bi-Xenons always flicker just a bit when they light off, Then they take about 30 seconds to hit
operating temperature and full light color. D2S/D2R are the bulb type the ballast is designed
to fire off.. My experience is they last about 2x the life of a Halogen. The ballasts last longer if
you dont let the bulbs burn out an dkeep running them. I replace the bulbs in pairs and do it
as soon as the color starts to fall from White to yellow.
Exactly. HID bulbs definitely have a service life, and the intensity and color temperature change over the life of the bulb. A pair of new bulbs will probably make a big difference.
Same here. My issue was the plug at the back of the light housing not seating all the way into the plug mounted on the tray in the fender. The yellow plastic clip holding the plug to the plastic tray was broken allowing the plug to move when the light assembly was inserted. Some of the lights worked, and some didn't. If I moved the light assembly around, some would flicker. I fixed it by buying a new tray assembly.
I just fixed one of the parking lights by cleaning the connectors with electrical contact cleaner and a tiny dab of electrical grease on each pin.. Edit-- Oh and yes on the back of the light sled,, not the sockets..
so my bulb isn't lit anymore....but the signal lights and foglights work....that makes me believe the connection is good...hopefully you guys are correct and all I need is bulb
The longer you let it go, the better the odds get you burn up the ballast..
I found a guy on ebay out of the EU that sells D2s genuine Phillips bulbs. was fairly cheap..
Way cheaper than the 400 bucks BMW wanted..
