Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You can still buy lower mileage running cars for less than this going to cost you in the long run and with a title.

The first one I bought was 13k and barely running with hidden damage and a poorly executed repair.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today's search on the Facebook market place for E46 parts, I stumbled across a add for a 1999 911 carrera coupe for $4,500.
The Description says
"1999 911 careera. 6 speed. Over 200k miles. Was a daily driver until the engine lost oil pressure. Engine is damaged. Some Service records. Lost title so bill of sale only. This is a perfect parts car."
I mainly only buy cars from "dealerships" but is this another cheap entry into the 911 world or just a money pit that will never equal out? The first one I bought was 13k and barely running with hidden damage and a poorly executed repair. I enjoy the sound of the m96 so I would try to rebuild the engine, Like I did with the m54.
I am between a deal too great to pass up and a warning flag to stay away
$4500 is about right for a roller.
But it wont be cheap to get it in good shape.
Along with the bad engine, you also probably have a very old suspension, brakes, and other accessories.
I would try to get it for $4000 or less.
It wont be cheap, but if you do your own work it can be fun.
Make sure you can get a bonded title.
If they were in TX, and they had it registered, they could get a duplicate title.
If you can wrench on cars it could be a good opportunity but these engines aren't cheap to build. The lack of title scares me the most depending on how bad your state is with that. Some make it almost impossible to get it registered and back on the road. I would figure that part out first.
ONLY if you can get a title..otherwise it's a race car....
If the body and interior etc are descent and you had the inclination how about an LS conversion?
Three reasons I would NOT recommend this 996 to you:
1. Engine is damaged.
2. Lost title so bill of sale only.
3. only buy cars from "dealerships"
Avoid a nightmare and enjoy that Charger. Then, if you save up around $20-25K, go buy a nice 996 that has all the problems addressed.
Lost title is EASY to replace. Just go to DMV with VIN and order replacement ( some states will only do this for the owner i.e. show them your license)
If you love the idea of rebuilding a motor yourself and have $20k to throw at such a venture (beyond the purchase price), then go for it. If you did it all yourself thatd be a reasonable budget for a full engine rebuild along with all the other aging parts (brakes, suspension, clutch, etc). Hope that helps.
Thanks guys, With the information provided above I don't think i'll pick this one up unless he drops it to 3k (unlikely.) Hopefully I can find another one decently priced, The charger is nice with 500 hp but it is not as fun to drive or have the individuality I am looking for.
