Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wondering what vehicle you have had in the past, Porsche or non-Porsche, that you feel terrible about selling or you had to depart with it for whatever reason. And if you could do it all over again, you would have seconds thoughts about letting it go. Cheers and safe driving.

POST 3Original post

How about cars we wished we would have bought. Back in '97 just started my practice, I walked into the Porsche dealer where they had a brand new black/black 993 that could have been mine. Instead I passed and bought a family friendly SUV. What a mistake, now that SUV is long gone and I often think how cool it would have been to bring the kids home from the hospital in that 911.

Under heavy spousal pressure I sold my 1966 Corvette convertible - 427/390hp. Knock-off wheels, white with Nassau blue interior.....sob...sob..I have to stop now. I saved the shift **** and an extra 427 Bow-Tie logo from the side.

POST 6Original post

Gave up my '97 Targa prematurely when I had to cut back. Also, while at the time I traded my RS America for the '97 Targa and was thrilled, looking back I now know what a keeper the RSA was.

POST 7Original post

Regret selling (in 1994) an original 34k mile 1967 Camaro RS, electric windows, deluxe interior with fold-down back seat. Absolutely cherry. Even had the window sticker and sales contract from the lady who bought it new. Also regret selling (1989) my 1970 Chevelle, SS454 four speed with 69K miles and original paint. But, in selling those cars, I made room and generated enough money for my first 911, a really nice 78SC Targa. Hindsight is a beeatch

POST 15Original post

I deeply regret selling my 1967 Firebird convertible. An old man who lived in my very small town had owned it and he never, ever drove it. I finally worked up the nerve to ask him why he had the car if he did not want to drive it. He told me that he bought it new in 1967 as a graduation present for his daughter. Two months before graduation, she ran off with her boyfriend, and he never saw her again. He drove it for a little while, but I guess it broke his heart so, with only 2,000 miles on the odo, he put a tarp over it and left it in his garage. I asked him to sell it to me and he said he couldn't. I was 15 when I asked (In Oklahoma at the time, you could get a learner's permit at 14 1/2 . . . scary, huh . . . and yes I drove like a 14 year old at the time). When I was a sophmore in college, I received a message from him that if I wanted the car, I needed to come get it now, because he was moving to Arizona and did not want to take it. I had 3 days. I left school and bought the car, for, I think, $3,000. It was completely original and stunning. Hood mounted tach, power everything (convertible top, windows, power steering, brakes, etc . . . ), factory air. It was a dark green with a black top and interior. I had more fun in that car . . . When I was a senior, someone put a small cut in the top (the original top, and boy was it brittle) in order to steal the radio (what a dumba$$, I had removed the stock stereo and put in a Ford factory radio that just happened to fit). The thief was so annoyed that he threw the radio down on the ground right next to the car. A couple of nights later (this was December and freezing), I was in the middle of nowhere and doing about 75 mph on a freeway. I was passing a semi when I heard a loud explosion. I almost wrecked, but when I looked up, all I could see were billions of stars (there was no ambient light pollution). Apparently the wind had caught the rip and my 20+ year old convertible top exploded. There was nothing but metal ribs. I had a choice to make. I could either go fast and freeze but get to a town faster, or I could go slowly, stay warmer, but take a longer time. I gunned it and made it to the nearest town I could. I went to a convenience store and found a dark green tarp and several bungee cords. I fashioned a makeshift top that I connected on the inside with bungee cords. I thought it would be a temporary fix, but I later realized that I could not afford to replace the top. What a humiliation. All of my friends hummed the theme of Sanford & Son when I pulled up. In order to avoid the shame, I would put the top down whenever the temperature rose above about 37 degrees. I remember a few dates where, when we left on the date it was about 50 and I could get away with it being cool to have the top down, but when we were going home the temperature would drop to about 35 and my dates would wonder why I refused to put the top up. I wish I could go back in time . . . Here is the very sad part. Since I had no money, I could not fix the top. So, I got a loan and bought a Honda CRX (oh the horror, the horror). They gave me a great trade in value (who wouldn't). I also had a 1964 1/2 mustang, but the only reason I miss it is because it would have been worth a lot of money now. It was all original and it had factory A/C (under the dash). It was amazing to compare the Mustang with the Firebird. The Firebird seemed completely modern, while the Mustang seemed like an antique (and drove like one as well). Although there is no comparison, I also miss my Boxster S . . . highly underrated. . . Sorry for the long post, Chris Walrod's post hit a nerve.

'57 Jaguar XK-140 MC Roadster -- In my college days (in NY) I had traded my dad's '65 MB 250SE for the Jag (even swap), and brought it back to Germany after graduation. I drove it flat out on the Autobahn, and the engine seized. I had it repaired with used parts and sold it to a German count who had 3 other XKs in his collection. Such a beautiful car, despite the terrrible reliability!

Oh well....... ...........If we could only go back in time. For me it was an 89 VW Scirocco 16Valve. Car ran beautifully for years and alot of fun to drive. My very first sports car. I had to give it up because I needed the money to buy and house and get married. If anyone of you guys by chance owns a red 16V Scirocco that you purchased in Toronto on September 14, 1991 let me know..................I would be very happy to trade you for a house and a wife. POST 47Original post

No... Your info is incorrect. My Speedster was a club racer (NY Reg 1952) probably built in the Austrian Garage. It had a 1100cc VW engine. The VW models had somewhat less. I bought it from a junk yard. How could a Porsche be in a junk yard? Because it belonged there. The front was so light I had to put concrete blocks up front to give it stability in wet weather and reduce the under steer. The windshield was 8" high, had a fabric top - side curtains. It was ameteurish and couldn't hold a candle to my 52 Alpha Spider 1100cc, deDion rear end. It would be worth something today (to PAG)

POST 49Original post

Even tough my wife would claim I've never gotten rid of anything ( ) I regret selling the 914-6 and the 356 cab, but then I got great cars to replace them. Will never sell my first car, a 1971 914, still in near concours condition. Torags, sure you didn't have an America roadster? I'm pretty sure too Speedsters weren't around in '52...

POST 50Original post

I'm real sure. Problem is, you read about history - I lived and am it (did I say that?) No mechanics would touch the car, including VW mechanics. I got the car in '58 on the hype of the 356. I thought it would be similar, it wasn't. There we two upgrades. The 1100cc bore and a fully synchromesh transmission (first gear) In those days it was really something. I was a teenage hotrodder changing from gutsy engine conversions (flathead Ford to overhead valve GM), and the Porsche was a disappointment. No guts and handled like crap (undrivable in NY winters). The good Dr P., started a garage (about the size of a two car garage) in Austria after the war. They started to make club racers by hand using altered VW componants. The body was steel with lead fill ( could have been hand hammered). I learned that later. It truely looked like a beetle, if I ever dig into old photos - I'll look for a photo. The VW chassis was used by a lot of US custom body builders (using fiberglass).

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
