Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I recently became a member of PCA. More precisely from Rennsport. I contacted PCA via message today because I could'nt get a digital copy of the Panorama magazine. The reply came from a person named Charlene Bleckley asking for a copy of my driver license and registration. is this something normal? I ususally dont paranoid about personal infos but I prefer asking before sending pictures of theses documents. thanks Hugo

POST 2Original post

I got the same email from Charlene back in April when I joined. I followed up asking if it was necessary to submit those docs and received a reply stating it's needed due to scammer activity and the information is immediately destroyed after verification. I ended up sending copies. She's listed on the PCA https://www.pca.org/national-hq

POST 3Original post

I applied about 4 months ago on the internet. I know they asked for my DL# and the VIN# but nothing about my registration and not copies of anything.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok I decided to send them the infos and abueler was right the informations are destroyed after and are just to confirm your identity and prove you own the car. In the end I now have all access to PCA forum! Thanks Hugo

POST 5Original post

It must be a new policy. I've been a member since 2001 and I've never provided anything like this. I'm getting ready to renew and if they ask for this stuff from me, I will refuse on principal and say Adis to the PCA if I have to.

POST 6Original post

Every time I have talked to them on the phone they have been very polite and helpful. Don't know why they need to have that kind of information.

POST 7Original post

Member since 2014. Never heard of that! Must be new policy.

POST 8Original post

I joined in Sept 2018. I only remember providing my VIN.

POST 9Original post

Do those who joined PCA recommend it? I have never been a member there, only here. Worth it for a shadetree mechanic mostly interested in knowledge/how-to's and other technical advice, rather than social gatherings/meets (no that that stuff isnt great for many!) Feel free to pm if you'd rather reply in private. Thanks,

POST 10Original post

Just received a 30 year PCA acknowledgment certificate in the mail yesterday how good times fly by like any organization PCA has its faults but what I have found over the years is you tend to gravitate to the events and areas of your personal interests. I too consider myself a shade tree mechanic mainly to keep the race cars running and control racing costs at least a bit. The Pano monthly magazine is worth the annual dues usually some really good tech articles in there There are some great people in PCA and you will find them in your local PCA region. Join and enjoy. The monthly mag. Pano is interesting to read even if not all applies to me. I just skip the stuff that is not of interest. I also don't do the social events and there aren't many technical articles in Pano that aren't widely available on the internet either. Nice thing is you could try it for a year and if not what you want/need just don't renew.

I am not a social butterfly. I have no issue meeting new people but i am afraid to just walk up and say hi. With that said i joined 4 months ago. I have gone to all the meeting and met some really nice people. Everyone is really nice and helpfully. I honest joined for the racing events. I have now gone to one autocross and one hpde event. I am now hooked in racing. We also plan to try some of the social events. My instructor at the last hpde was the complete opposite of me and took me around to everyone he met. I was blown away at how enjoyable the experience has been. Highly worth it in my opinion.

POST 13Original post

I wouldn’t give my Driver license to my kids school let alone a car magazine. , you can vote without one ,why in the world would you give them that?

POST 14Original post

My understanding is they want your DL# and VIN# because in order be in the Porsche Club you must own a Porsche. In order for them to verify your ownership these pieces of information are required. Not to start a debate but these are also public record. People don't realize how much info can be obtained easily. The shop i work at uses a computer management system that only requires the license plate number and state issue entered and it auto populates all the vehicle info including the vin#

POST 15Original post

FWIW,, its actually against the law to make ANY facsimile of a drivers license in multiple states. Oh and if you have the DOT access program, and ANYBODY finds out your dumping the printouts without proper destruction they will own you in court.. Literally..

As far as SOCIAL EVENTS, I've been a PCA member for about 40 years and although we don't participate in racing we have a great time meeting PCA members at social events. You should try to get to one of the local chapter Happy Hours or Porsches and Pancake meetings. The Happy Hour events, done properly, will make you feel at home...we run one in Ft Lauderdale...unfortunately, attendance has not been great lately....NEED MORE PEOPLE TO VENTURE OUT.

In Florida, you must present and have scanned either a Florida Drivers License or Florida Identification Card in order to vote. Voter ID law. No big deal.

That was my understanding from the email exchange with her as well. Anyone could just pull a VIN off the internet and join the club... Im also very hesitant about providing personal information, but like you said all that information is public record and can be easily obtained.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
