Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Juat purchased this 911 yesterday from non-porsche dealer. He had a few Porsches, Bmw;s etc. 42,000 miles VERY clean 6 speed. My wife and I fell in love with this car. I am in Fla on vacation and will be driving the car back to Boston in a few weeks, I did purchase a 3 yr waranty from Western General, has any body had any experience with them. Any words of wisdom for the long ride home. By the way is this considered a 996? Thanks so much. Rick

POST 2Original post

Yep...you are now the proud new owners of a 1999 996. Congrats and enjoy! Welcome to the fold. Chad

POST 4Original post

Welcome! First thing to do post pictures! I have not had experience with Western General, but I did buy an extended warranty for my 1999 996 last June. I am not a huge fan of extended warranties, but this one saved me $9k this year. I had a connecting rod bearing failure. For the long ride home: Notice the feedback the car gives you. Turn the radio off and listen to the flat-6 music! If you are curious about what your car has for options, underneath your hood is a sticker. Enter these codes in the online decoder . If you have questions, post em. A couple things you will learn hanging out in this forum: RMS failure Hope you can stay out of that club! The never-ending question: "What sounds best, Fabspeed, GHL or PSE exhaust?" To supercharge or not to supercharge? Bumperplugs! Adds 15 HP. Visit Renntech.org for DIY instructions. Drive safe, Darren

POST 8Original post

Hi Rick, When you post pics, can you post pics of all your cars? Thanks.

POST 9Original post

Rick: Welcome to the 996 club! Enjoy the experience! And wish you thousands of happy miles! Cheers.

POST 10Original post

I'll help him out with a pic of two of them... Rick is a nice guy, has a collection starting now. Nice 4 post lift!

POST 12Original post

Yes, sweet! More pics of the GTO! How about some of the Oakland? It's a roadster is it not? Sweet...

POST 14Original post

Really.......Whenever I park the 928 or my a28 under my pontiac GP the rear main seal seems to want to drip a little on the car under it.Never seems to leak when I park it on the ground. Boy do I hate the old rope style seals.

POST 15Original post

Rick, Welcome to the realm of 996 owners. I am just down the road from you in Mansfield and have complete shop manuals, a few tools/parts, and a little knowhow. Feel free to stop by sometime for coffee or beer..., I would love to see your new wheels. I am still quite curious about the 928. So many owners really liked them. Have a nice trip. - once up to the Delaware memorial Bridge on RT 95, usually the best route is to take the NJ turnpike to the George Washington bridge. Even with 30 minutes of sloggin through traffic it is usually faster than the Tappan Zee. I have driven this route a lot in the past few months.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

GTO does have slight drip but catch pans take care of that. I will post pict of Oakland. Bought it in 83, total frame off restoration, complete motor tear down and rebuild. Its a two door coupe, and UNFORTUNETLY will now be for sale due to latest purchase. (But worth it). And rrys, this spring you are welcome to take my 928 for a spin. I have had this car since 97 and love it. Last year I had the motor "pulled" and rebuilt because of many leaks. I will always have this car.And thanks for the helpful directions! Rick
