My Great Dane would have trouble getting in the car let alone sitting in it....so when we want him to come along we use a different car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My previous beloved cockapoo Max weighed a little over 20 pounds. He passed away at almost 18 years this past April. Now, Luke is our 7 month old wonderful standard poodle. 57 pounds. Probably 10 more poinds to go. He is a big one. Lol. So, back seats down or up for him? Any ideas on seat protectors unique to 911s and 996s? Oh, he goes most places with us so leaving him behind is not an option.

POST 2Original post

I wish I could bring my lab-mix mutt in the 996. She's 45lbs or so. But she'd tear up the leather with her paws. She's already done a number on my F-150 center console: She stands on her hind legs in the rear of the F-150, and "sits" with her paws, forelegs and chest down on the center console. So the center console is all scratched up. I'd love to have the dog in the back, but I believe she'd scratch it all up. Not happening on my watch.

POST 3Original post

I wanted so bad to bring my doggo with me in my Pcars. But, first time I did, she scratched the center console leather. And I don't think she liked it that much anyway. She's a 55-60 GSD mix, and doesn't stay still. Maybe I'll find a way, but she owns two other cars lol

POST 4Original post

My Springer Spaniel is 60 lb. He is really uncomfortable in the back but is great in the passenger seat. But, he prefers the Lexus any day.

I'd think the rear seats down should work. Your lucky you can bring your dog with you in your 996. I have a 100 lbs Labrador that has destroyed the interior of my old truck so that is the only car she rides in. Our German cars are off limits for her. 😀

POST 6Original post

Wrong dog for a 911... If he must be driven in a Porsche, buy a Macan or a Cayanne. I'd buy a inexpensive pick-up...

Here is a company that may be able to help you. They can do custom work if you can provide a pattern, and make floor liners / seat covers that go up the sides and backs of the seats. I have a floor liner in the back of my BMW GT and have been very pleased with it. If you call the phone number they can probably talk to you about their best ideas. No personal interest etc., just a satisfied customer. Daryll https://www.canvasback.com/index.php/

POST 8Original post

The seat bottoms on the 996 are only held in by velcro. They lift out pretty easily. If you tend to take him places a lot, I'd pull the seat bottoms out and put down a thick padded moving blanket to protect the rear carpeting. If you want to give him some additional room, the seat backs unbolt pretty quickly as well. https://www.renntech.org/forums/topi...removal-996tt/

POST 9Original post

Strap the pooch in too. You don't want a flying poodle if you get into an accident.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In my jeep I have a cover that essentially covers the back seat and hangs on the front seats. He is comfortable enough in that. I will try that in the p-car. I'm worried about him scratching stuff too. That being said, he really doesn't move around very much. Here's a pic. He is 7 months old....

If only you had a cabrio...this guy comes to the 24 Hours of Daytona every year. Unlimited headroom.

Sure, but dogs are fun! Years ago (30++) I was working in sales for the Tampa Mercedes-Benz dealership. Sold a guy a new 560SEL sedan. We always included hand-painted pinstripe with the owner's initials on the front doors. The customer had his initials put on the driver's door, his wife's on the front passenger door, and "Jake" on the back driver's side door. I asked who "Jake" was, and it was his dog that went everywhere with him. Over the next couple of years he brought Jake to the dealership many times - we all looked forward to playing with the big friendly black lab. His car always seemed pretty clean inside too, amazingly. Daryll

Dogs are great! Really miss my German Shepard...I get it!

POST 16Original post

My Weimaraner loved driving in my 996. Passenger seat, until she (the Dog) charmed my girl (My Fianc). Then she was relegated to the back seat and road tripped with us numerous times from Phoenix to Los Angeles and back She might've whined once every other trip mid-way to stop for a potty break. Best Dog Ever

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Over the last 33 years since I was a teenager I have been blessed with 3 wonderful dogs. First was Wrinkles. He was a mischievous Beagle. I bottle raised him from the age of 2 weeks. Sadly, he only ever made it to our cottage once as he was put to sleep 2 days after we bought. Our cockapoo Max made it to almost 18 years. Disliked car rides but the minute he saw the cottage bag by the front door, he would go sit right by the car waiting to leave. He was a very obedient dog. The being said, when it was time to leave the cottage, he would sit on the back deck and would have to be coerced, picked up or yelled at to get in the car. Now we have Luke, the Giant Poodle. Hasnt been in the 996 yet. He is 7 months old. Some of the best drives I make are going to the cottage. I could not imagine doing it dogless on the way there. Wife cant come every weekend due to work so it is nice just me and my boy.....

POST 18Original post

Ranger loves riding with the top down. I just take the back seat cushions out when we take him. I bought a harness and a strap that hooks into the rear seat belt receiver.

POST 19Original post

I have a feeling that the cabs would be better for dogs as they can get their nose full of air without a problem. In a coupe, my dog would be stretching/climbing to get his nose out a window (and clawing up stuff in the process).

POST 20Original post

With my 65 pound GS Dog I removed the rear seats entirely. Gives them more room to move around back there. I usually have a blanket back there as well. I purposely saved money by buying a 911 that showed signs of wear and tear on the interior. I take my pup most places. Lately he stands with his rear legs in the back and his front paws on the top of the windshield. Must look interesting as people take a lot of pictures.

POST 21Original post

Just had my 45 pound GSD mix in the back while driving skyline drive yesterday. With seats folded down it work much better than I anticipated.

POST 22Original post

Mine is 40 pounds. I have those ugly sheepskins (which I absolutely love for over 30 years on all my Pcars). All I added was a beach towel over the center console. He prefers the front seat so he can help read the GPS for me.

Same here. Our truck is the Great Dane vehicle of choice, as you can see in my avatar photo.

POST 25Original post

Mine do well in the back, I just buckle them in after removing the bottom cushions. English Bulldog is Dumpster, Frenchie not pictured is Guzzler. Go ahead and call my dogs (bad sense of humor). Haha
