There are two readings on the stick; one says "Hot" and gives you a little arrow pointing to a line telling you not to fill beyond that point, but on the other "cold" side there's no arrow and no line....

No idea what is right or wrong, but Id just use a large syringe to extract the excess.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I noticed my hydraulic fluid level was down, so picked up a quart of very expensive Pentosin CHF 11s at Pep boys ($23 + tax), since I got some sharp criticism for buying non-Porsche idler pulleys, a couple days ago. (I only discovered Rennlist a couple of months ago) (that doesn't mean I'm going to buy only Porsche parts, though) There are two readings on the stick; one says "Hot" and gives you a little arrow pointing to a line telling you not to fill beyond that point, but on the other "cold" side there's no arrow and no line.... There's a place further up where the plastic has a detent, but is that the overfill point? (With engine cold) I was stingy at first and only put in a small amount of fluid, and still saw none on the gauge, so the second time I was more generous, and of course now it's clear up to that detent - well past the "Hot" mark. Is this like putting too much oil in the engine? / very bad? Should I try to draw out some of the fluid? I'm thinking fluids probably expand when hot, meaning I might've really overshot the mark, here. Thanks -

POST 2Original post

No idea what is right or wrong, but Id just use a large syringe to extract the excess. I buy them at farm stores around here, but someone recently posted a link to amazon.

POST 3Original post

Yup, take some out. Do you have the owners manual? Check cold, fluid should be just below the cold mark.
