Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

UPDATES GOTO REPLY/POST #19 Let me see if this works. First time I will try to upload audio clip. Looking at UPS tracking site this morning in anticipation of the arrival of the PSEs, my tracking number brought up an update which says "5:30AM Out for Delivery" Man, the UPS guy is up early!! I was all excited and started removing my old mufs. Got them out by 9AM. Now it's all a matter of waiting game. Thinking that the UPS delivery truck left at 5:30 am to start his delivery route, he should be here no later than lunch. As anticipation turned to anxiousness then to frustration, it was 5PM and no UPS man!!! Finally at 6:10 PM he showed up, 6:10 PM !!! Anyways, I immediately went on "sweat mode alpha" and got them on in an hour and fifteen, went for a test drive and listened to the porsche's real music!! Here are the clips. Hope they work. Bear with me, it's the first time for me attaching audio clips. 1st track is the very first start up of the engine after the install. Recorder is right in between the 2 exhaust(outside the car). http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/1stclip.WAV 2nd and 3rd clips are runs in 3rd gear maybe all the way to 6500RPMs. Recorder is inside the car with windows open. I'll try to record better ones tomorrow. http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/2ndclip.WAV http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/3rdclip.WAV This 4th Clip is a run from 1st to 4th gear maybe up to 6500RPMs. Recorder is inside the car with windows open. There's a few seconds towards the middle where all you can hear is the wind, just keep it playing, the PSE wins after a while I'll try to record better ones tomorrow. http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/4thClip.wav

POST 3Original post

Sounds good. I can tell from the 1st clip that you're 5"7" based upon the sound of your gait from the rear of the car to the driver's seat. (edited to provide an illusion of being gifted instead of FOS)

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! Close enough on my height , I'm 5'7". Just added a 4th clip above where I took it through the gears. I'll try to record a better one tomorrow.

POST 5Original post

An hour and change to do the install; if you loose your day job you can work an Meinekie. I have the PSE on my car and it is the shizzle. I turn on my bun warmer and roll down the window and enjoy. I only use the stereo on the freeway. You will find yourself downshifting for tunnels and underpasses. I also love wicken' it up next to a retaining wall. From the clips it sounds like you didn't hook up the stealth switch. I hacked my relay for full time sound. I love the fact that at ALL speeds it doesn't resonate in the cabin. My question for others that read this as I haven't seen anyone drive by with PSE; is it an attention getting ,sweet sound? I know it isn't Ferrari sweet,but........

POST 6Original post

StanSoph, That would be the shiziznit, not the shizzle. Get right be-fo I have to check you wit da kadiznow!!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, you changed this... I remember this being 5'10" last night

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Stan. That 1hr 15 min install is just for the PSE mufflers. Not the electronics nor vaccum connections for the switching on and off. Good thing that it's set to 'Loud' without the electronics. I don't think I will ever install the electronics. Like you I rarely use the stereo even when I had the stock muffs. The car came with HPA Bose Sys. Now I doubt it if I will ever turn it on when the engine is going Maybe I'll remove it totally to save weight You're right, no resonance anywhere in the rev range. It's pure throaty, raspy porsche notes. I love it! I've heard quite a few PSE cars from full throttle on the track, passing by on the highways or just idling, and I don't think it's anoying at all unless maybe it's doing WOT in housing area.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

..did they come with instructions? I received 1 big box which contains the mufflers and two smaller boxes of vaccum lines, hardware and electronics BUT NO instructions..?? The dashboard switch is seperate right, which have to be bought for $22? Thanks

POST 11Original post

That sounds great! I really want to get this for my car but we just went on a cruise and my wife went a little crazy at the art auctions they held on the ship, so my PSE will be hanging on the walls

POST 12Original post

I love my PSE its defintely the best mod so far, suspension next

POST 13Original post

Mike- Did you do any comparisons between PSA and Fabspeed maxflo mufflers or PSE and GHL regular or loud mufflers before you took the PSE plunge? Both are quite a bit cheaper than PSA right? Thanks. Chuck

POST 14Original post

Mikey, awesome sounds. Just wondering, exactly what speed does 6500 RPM in 4th gear correspond to? On which road? Tsk, tsk.

POST 15Original post

Hi Mike thanks for sharing. Well, I pulled the trigger on a 1999 996 and the 993 is being sold this friday. Everything you told me about the differences was right on the money. NOW FOR THE MODS!!!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don, You know where it's at

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Re-auction the artwork at ebay when the wife is sleeping and get the PSE.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool Rich! Congratulations!! Post some pictures

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2 CLIPS OF 1ST TO 4TH GEAR. WINDOWS OPEN. RECORDED FROM INSIDE THE CABIN. Sorry the wind is still loud. http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/DSCF0002.WAV 1ST TO 3rd gear WINDOWS CLOSED from inside the cabin. http://members.rennlist.com/carreramike/DSCF0003.WAV

POST 20Original post

Mike, Dude, your car sounds AWESOME! There is nothing better than the sound of a genuine Porsche Sports Exhaust. You're right, no resonance anywhere in the rev band. And the best part -- the sound only gets deeper and better with age! PSE is the best mod money can buy - and worth every penny. Congrats, Mark P.S. I didn't get any directions either; just one really big and heavy box with "ACHTUNG" written all over it! Sweet.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got your PM. Thanks for the kind words. I love the it's notes from 3 to 6.8 K rpm!!

POST 22Original post

Mike, Beware; now that you have PSE, your 996 is even more addicting. Mark

POST 23Original post

I have to go back to my urban dictionary and get my 'izzles and 'izznets straight. I thought I was doing pretty good for a Texan. So much to learn.......

POST 24Original post

Guys I am sorry to tell you, but the how reliable is the PSE? I had for 8 months before the first valve broke. I does not work any longer and specialist say I should give up on the system. It is a shame... Best Wishes WOT

POST 25Original post

You only have to worry about the vacuum operated valves if you want to switch it on and off. Most people don't bother with the valves and install it in "full sport" mode all the time. Disconnect the vacuum valves, pull them open with a set of vise grips and you'll be back in business with a big grin... oh, and fire your specialist! : )
