Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've done a PPI on all the Porsches I've bought and I've started doing PPIs on any used car I'm seriously considering buying.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking to buy a '99 996 with 45K miles that's located about three hours from my home. Important: the car still has about nine months remaining on a Porsche Certified Warranty. The 45K major service has been completed with no problems. The current owner purchased the car from a dealership and believes that the warranty can be transfered at no charge.
My questions: 1) Has anyone had any problems transfering a Porsche Certified Warranty? 2) How does buying a 996 with this kind of warranty influence the extent of the PPI that should be done? Dumb related question: To what extent is a PPI absolutely necessary given that the car is still under warranty? 3) What is the "value added" to the car by this warranty?
Thanks for your feedback!
1. PCW's are transferable
2. A PPI should still always be done - you never know the condition the prior owner(s) kept the car in
3. The value-add at this point is simply piece of mind that should there be anything mechanically wrong (within the provisions of the PCW), the car will be taken care of.
Good luck with it.
I strongly encourage you to do a PPI before you purchase the vehicle. If anything comes up, you can take the opportunity to have repairs done under the warranty. Good luck witht he purchase.
Can't stress the PPI enough - it's worth the $100 or so and can alert to you any problems that may be "okay" while the car is still under warranty and develop into issues a year or so later. If you do go through with the PPI, have it done by a reputable Porsche mechanic (sometimes the dealership is not always the best place to go in town), and talk to the people that will be performing the inspection. Get an idea of what they check and what additional checks like leakdowns cost if you want those done. Most places will fax you a copy of their PPI form so you can look it over in advance. Then once the PPI is over, call and talk to the mechanic that actually performed the PPI. Ask about the results, what their overall impressions of the car were, were there any areas you should be concerned about, cost projections to fix any items noted, etc... The remaining time on the warranty should address most of the issues found during the PPI but if you don't do a PPI you might not know about them until it's too late. I've done a PPI on all the Porsches I've bought and I've started doing PPIs on any used car I'm seriously considering buying.
