Maybe the market has changed but Ive been looking around hard for a month or so now before I purchased my coupe and if you are in the market for a nice clean C4S the coupes are more expensive and there are less of them currently for sale.

If the seller can't produce records for an IMS retrofit and a clutch change, I'd do both before you even take delivery of the car.

I personally like low mileage cars but as others have said with a 996.2 it statistically has a higher risk of IMS failure - my opinion that this is not from lack of use but from other factors

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mercedes of Delray has what appears to be a nice 04 C4S cab. Of course, they have no records so you don't know if the IMS, etc. has been done. I was wondering if anyone here may have seen the car or know anything about it? Any help is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

If they have no records pay accordingly. Don't fall for dealerships telling you how nice things are. Their motive is to profit. If you're ok with having no records kept get a solid PPI and go from there. Assume nothing. Good luck!

POST 3Original post

According to the Carfax someone brought it to Aamco transmissions at ~28k miles for a check up...I wonder why? Aamco didn't even insert the cars mileage correctly into the computer system. And it's also funny in the written description on the dealers website they call it Guards Red. Lol, where is the attention to detail these days... Looks like the car spent a considerable amount of time up north before coming down to FL. With no records I wouldn't have this one at the top of my list, although its possible it could be a good car. Like was already said you'd need a good PPI but that still wont answer everything with no records.

POST 4Original post

Looks nice, price is not out of line for fairly high optioned 30k mi car.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 14989919

very nicely spec'd car, that was a $118,xxx build

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all for your inputs. So if I put $3-$5K for INS, RMS, and possibly a clutch I'd have a solid car? Anyone know a good indy shop near Delray for a PPI?

POST 8Original post

Looks like the driver side headlight washer cap is missing as well. I like the deviated carpet option but the center console surround and outside air vents don't look great in black, in my opinion. I think they look better beige like this but that is personal preference and you could always swap them out later if you wanted. There are a lot of nice C4S cabs out there, have you looked at all the typical places? Car Gurus, Autotrader, Cars.com, and Ebay? Definitely get a PPI if you can. IMS/RMS/Clutch is great to have done but there could be other issues like radiator / coolant leaks, water pump, AOS, transmission issues, bore scoring, etc. Then you can have a little more negotiating power as well if you still decide you want it.

POST 9Original post

@86491: Looks like a really nice C4S. If the seller can't produce records for an IMS retrofit and a clutch change, I'd do both before you even take delivery of the car. Should run around $3,500 at a reputable shop. We also have a great Porsche Gold Meister tech near Miami who could travel out to the car for a full PPI. Let me know if we can help. Thanks!

POST 10Original post

Check the Porsche maintenance log book that comes with the car often times owner will have them stamped when any service is performed on the car I personally like low mileage cars but as others have said with a 996.2 it statistically has a higher risk of IMS failure - my opinion that this is not from lack of use but from other factors when a low mileage car has a failure it draws much more attention that say one with 125K any low mileage car might be one of the 3% to 5% that will fail but has not reached the point of failure If you like the color and it passes a PPI and drives well then I think $28k would be a great price If I were buying a 996.2 I would have a really deep dive on the oil filter and oil pan then if it all checked out I would do the IMS retro fit ASAP then drive it everyday for years

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Again, thanks for the help. No way would I buy this without a PPI. Hard to get any info and the price is non-negotiable but they did meter the paint and send a few pictures. I asked them to check the books for stamps but haven’t received a reply. Looks like a unique build with some potential. I’ve owned many air cooled 911/930’s and this makes a broken head stud look like a walk in the park.

POST 12Original post

Just my two cents, but you could be missing out on a great car because you won't consider it without a PPI. I know many folks (including myself) that bought cars with a PPI and sure enough lot's of major things went wrong right after the purchase. A PPI can't foresee what 'might' fail next. In addition, I do not allow anybody to do a "deep dive" PPI on the cars that I sell because the last time I allowed it, the mechanic cross threaded the spark plug after he checked it (and denied it of course). Never again! Let us know what you decide to do.

POST 13Original post

If this car is clean and in good working order it is an absolute steal at this price. Of course their price is firm, it's got low mileage, a decent carfax, and it is LOADED with options. Find a way, this one is in a rare color combo to boot. Gorgeous. It's in the Miami area, there must be tons of PPI sources there.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 14993931

Is Guards Red and Beige really that rare?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 14995506

The car in Delray is not guards red. The dealer has a mistake in their written description.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 14995506

No, not really. But the car OP is asking us to look at is Carmon red which is pretty rare.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 14995658

Yes, it's a rare color combination, add to that the vast list of options that bring a $90K car to $118K and I think it's a winner as long as it checks out ok. Most C4s models seem to come in some form of Grey for the exterior or interior, this one really pops and has all the cosmetic options to boot.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 14995730

I guess I was referring to the pictures a little further up the thread.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 14995762

Those are actually pics from my Guards Red C4S. I was showing the color difference between the interior trim pieces. The Delray car has black outside air vents and black console surround, instead of tan like in my car. Not sure if that's an option or if the previous owner had them swapped out. On closer look the air vents and some of the trim is body painted, so that's probably how it came optioned. Delray car below.

POST 20Original post

The Delray car has a ton of options involving the interior trim, floor mats, seat belts, deviated stitching, console tunnel, even the center instrument cluster. I'm pretty sure all of what you see is from the factory and listed in the build sheet.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No news to report. Sometimes life gets in the way! I was really attracted to the color and options as someone said most are silver, gray, or black. Sure wish it was a coupe though.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 14996795

Coupes are more abundant. You should be able to find one you like and spend less. Rare colors = more expensive. Good Luck!

POST 23Original post

Maybe the market has changed but Ive been looking around hard for a month or so now before I purchased my coupe and if you are in the market for a nice clean C4S the coupes are more expensive and there are less of them currently for sale. Its also true some of the rare colors might not be more desirable, so they may sit on the lot until a specific buyer finds it. Take this car for example. Its already been listed for about 45 days and had a $4K price drop. But there could be other reasons for that. Personally I wasnt interested in silver, black, or gray myself so I found a super clean Guards Red and Im happy with the color. Good luck with the search to me thats half the fun.
