Might not have been filled completely on oil change.

Suggestion
I would replace both, flush the system and fill with fresh coolant.

Suggestion
That does look like coolant, and possibly the wrong type - need phosphate free and Porsche's recommended coolant is pink as Jeeper pointed out.

Would also recommend new gaskets with genuine porsche water pump and a new thermostat maybe even new tstat housing.

From the photo it looks like that hose is shot (the way it's protruding through the clamp) - if it hasn't been replaced, I would replace it as opposed to just tightening the clamp, as it could go any time.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK. So one week into ownership, I just took my new (to me) car for an oil change to a very reputable Indy shop as I wasnt sure the last time he previous owner did it and I wanted a solid baseline with a good shop to go off.
he car was completely dry underneath prior to purchase and also at the time of the oil change. Fast forward to today and I come back from a drive and notice a damp patch on the garage floor. I was able to get the video / pictures attached. Is this oil? Any idea on the issue? Im taking it back to the shop on Monday but seeing as theyre not open, was hoping for some wisdom from the community.
Looks like you have a coolant leak. It also looks like they may have the wrong spec coolant in your car. The whole coolant debate on these cars has been discussed to death. I will say that the porsche spec is usually pink but that doesnt mean what u have in the car wont work, u just dont want the mix the different chemistries.
Thanks guys. But why has oil level also dropped? Its dropped two levels (dont know the correct term) on the digital oil monitor since the oil change.
Temp and pressure looked good on the drive, but the oil level has definitively dropped since yesterday.
Might not have been filled completely on oil change. Check with the car completely level?
Does the drip smell like oil or something else (that would be coolant). Also, the coolant reservoirs are prone to cracking at the mounting point so look at the bottom of that.
That does look like coolant, and possibly the wrong type - need phosphate free and Porsche's recommended coolant is pink as Jeeper pointed out. Might want to have that changed/flushed when you have the hose clamps tightened up.
Looks like the water pump to me. Even if it isn't, it looks old. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the water pump/gasket and drain all the coolant and replace with Porsche coolant. I would recommend Genuine Porsche or Pierburg for the pump.
Would also recommend new gaskets with genuine porsche water pump and a new thermostat maybe even new tstat housing. Genuine Porsche coolant for the 996 is pink,
Porsche uses Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolant. It can be green or pink. In the early cars, 1998 - 2001?, it was green later it was changed to pink to appease the the ***** hat wearing secretaries who were buying Boxsters.
My money is on bad water pump. Looking at the residue that is not a new leak which will most likely only show up after engine hot soaking for a few minutes.
Reservoir leak is more often farther off center to the drivers side. You should consider also changing the thermostat to a lower temp unit. 160 deg.

Oil level will fluctuate some depending on temp and how level the ground is where you measure it. Normally you will get the most repeatable readings before starting first thing in morning after sitting all night.
Many of us run about two bars down to keep from overwhelming the AOS when we get a little frisky on a hot day.
Politics aside, new-ish Porsche coolant will be hot pink. I think the previous version was yellow. From the looks of the thermostat housing I would venture to guess that you have the original water pump and thermostat. I would replace both, flush the system and fill with fresh coolant. The leak could be from a hose but the pump and thermostat should be replaced anyway. Having a shop do the work will be expensive - probably around $1500. You can do it yourself for about $400.
Regarding the oil level - It greatly depends on how level your car is when you measure it. I believe that on the electronic oil gauge, from top to bottom is less than a quart. Overfilling the oil is a much bigger sin than having it a bit low.
Thanks guys. It was absolutely coolant - the oil level has returned to normal now (I had no idea it fluctuated a little bit on the digital measure).
It looks like it's coming from a loose clamp on a hose, but I'm probably going to have the system drained and replace the pump just for peace of mind.
Thank you also for the heads up on the proper coolant. I had no idea!
From the photo it looks like that hose is shot (the way it's protruding through the clamp) - if it hasn't been replaced, I would replace it as opposed to just tightening the clamp, as it could go any time. As others have stated above, you're most likely still running with the original water pump - best to change it sooner rather than later! Good luck
