Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So Im gonna do it again and this time make a few patterns to stitch together using the same thread as the rest used of my full leather interior.
Leading evidence: 'Use of my full leather interior' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean line' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While the car has a chip on the nose, one on the mirror, and a flaw here and there, the most infuriating imperfection is that cheap *** paint they used on the interior.

This will allow a clean line to allow stitching from the center of the shifter to the "arm rest" cover.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It Looks a lot better than it did, but Im still not happy given I went with a leather that was a bit too thick to take on some of the countours of the console in a few spots (mainly the area below the ebrake).
I haven't made a post in a while, but now that the weather's finally been nice here in Chicago I'm back focusing on the 911. My formerly 19,800 2000 C2 Guards Red with full Savannah Beige interior is now a 21,800 mile car and the IMS has yet to give up the ghost. The car is still the nicest version of a 996 I've seen in person but there has been something grating on me since the day I got it. After much consideration, I've decided that the rear center console is the worst decision Porsche made when making this vehicle, with the center dash (horse shoe) coming in a close second. For anybody that cares, I've accepted and begun to like the headlights, haters be damned.
For the age, the car is pretty much flawless. It looks as good or better than any new car on a Porsche lot, inside and out. The problem is, you don't live 18 years without an imperfection here or there. While the car has a chip on the nose, one on the mirror, and a flaw here and there, the most infuriating imperfection is that cheap *** paint they used on the interior. In my case, the offender was the passenger side seat belt. From 18 years of moving the seat forward and aft, a five inch long scratch has formed on the side of the center console. This has driven my desire to completely change it and deliver it as it should have been in the first place.
As delivered by Porsche, it is covered in said CAP (cheap *** paint), with leather pads on the front and rear sides, along with a leather covered arm rest cover and shifter boot. I've thought long and hard about what Porsche might have done better, and here is what I've come up with..and what I want to do: I'm covering the rear center console in Savannah Beige leather, with a few twists. First, I'm relocating the window switches to the Horseshoe in the dash, then I'm filling in the ashtray/coin holder like it never existed. I'm having a local custom shop do it. This will allow a clean line to allow stitching from the center of the shifter to the "arm rest" cover. Second, I'm going to have the shift boot done in as close to Guards Red as available, possibly with Savannah Beige stitching (a point of contention currently, i don't know what color I should have it stitched). I currently have a standard shifter, but I have an alumalook bezel I'm considering using. I'm also considering having the ignition bezel covered with the same leather, and maybe the hazard bezel as well. I'm also considering bumper plugs for the thin piece that runs in the center of the dash in either Guards Red or Alumalook. Lastly, I'd eventually like have the seat belts in red as well. As a side note, I'm keeping all of the stock components in case I ever need it to return to stock.
Here are my questions; I have a local shop that is doing the main part of the console. For the shifter/boot, I found a place that seems to specialize in shifter's for Porsche (
www.custom-steering-wheels.com
). Has anyone ever used them? What was your experience? The main reason I'm considering them is I already have to buy an entire leather hide to have the local shop do the console and I don't want to have to buy another hide for just the shifter and misc. parts. Are there places to buy small amounts of leather for the shifter? What color closely matches Guards Red?
I want the end result not to abhorrently stand out. I want it to look as if it was an option from the factory, or an improvement on what Porsche offered in 2000 with a modern eye. The big question is; if you could redesign this part of the car today, what would you do?
Here is a pic of what I currently have:
Apologies if this is a stupid question, but is the aluminum looking surround you currently have around the heated seat buttons factory original? It looks a bit atypical with the exposed rivets, but maybe it's just something I haven't seen before.
I atuxally recovered mine in leather last week. It Looks a lot better than it did, but Im still not happy given I went with a leather that was a bit too thick to take on some of the countours of the console in a few spots (mainly the area below the ebrake). So Im gonna do it again and this time make a few patterns to stitch together using the same thread as the rest used of my full leather interior. The only part Ive yet to figure out is how to tackle the key hole for the rear storage bin.
All that hat to say, I think youll be happy. All I have invested to this point is $30 with of leather and my time. Ultimately, Ill have less than $70 into it and can move on to other projects. Good luck and keep us posted.
