My problem is sometimes if I want to use the cruise control I inadvertently push the wiper lever instead of the lower one and the damn stuff sprays all over my clean car!

And yes I do know the solution for this, which is why would you ever use the cruise control, but I do occationally use it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is this silver disk on the headlights? My car doesn't have them but some cars do. Is it something to do with xenon headlights? just curious, kristap

POST 3Original post

[Image-only post; no author-written text. Original image references:] http://www2.us.porsche.com/english/usa/911/turbo/safety/bilder/sicherheit_licht_foto.jpg

POST 4Original post

my headlights look exactly like that but do not have the headlight washer. does this mean that i do not have xenon lights? if not, how can they be halogen since they have the light bulb type light rather than the bif fat usual flood light type of headlight? thanks for any info

POST 5Original post

My US '99 996 coupe tip with a Feb-98 build date, has headlight washers (Option code 288) but not the silver disc. Also, no Xenons.

POST 6Original post

early 996 with washers were in the front of the lens, not hidden. Look at the shape of the headlights. This is the '02+ headlight.

POST 7Original post

Eric, you sound 100% correct to me. My headlight washers are in front and the pic above posted by Moogie, shows the later model.

POST 8Original post

If my xenons have that disc, does that mean I have washers?

POST 9Original post

Yes. You activate it by pushing forward on the w/wiper control stock. Also, when you activate your car's defrost by pushing the button (marked with the little lined window on the center consul), it heats the w/wash nozzles, headlamp wash nozzles, side mirrors and back windshield. I find it not really not that good at all considering our cars were built for cooler climates worldwide.

POST 10Original post

Dude, just tried it, so cool, didn't even know it was there! Now you need one of your trademark cool avatars wardhog. Welcome aboard.

POST 11Original post

Just be careful not to do it in the summer. The washer fluid on your paint in the hot sun isn't a good combination... ya know. Rob

POST 12Original post

Did you buy your 996 at a Porsche dealer? Is so they should have told you about that feature.

POST 13Original post

i hadn't thought of that one. Is this a problem even with summer bug cleaner fluid choices? BTW; i think it is std equipment with the Xenon pkge.

POST 14Original post

Yup, it comes std with the Xenon lights. No washer, no Xenon. Even the halogen lights look like that small flashlight shape rather than the big ovals now. Also, be careful about actuating the washer when doing over 100 mph. The darn thing can fly off .

POST 15Original post

No, my dealer didn't mention it, or else I was just in a trance taking in my new car! The latter is most likely.

POST 16Original post

I never let my car get dirty enough to need the washers. My problem is sometimes if I want to use the cruise control I inadvertently push the wiper lever instead of the lower one and the damn stuff sprays all over my clean car! And I have to wash it again! And yes I do know the solution for this, which is why would you ever use the cruise control, but I do occationally use it. Kris

POST 18Original post

I lost one at about 75MPH. Dealer said the first replacement was free.

POST 19Original post

What happened? Do they blow off at speed or something?

POST 20Original post

Mine blew off when it was accidentally operating during rainy weather.
