I have all the cars history and PO had a persistent misfire that Porsche finally rectified by replacing a lifter, annoyingly the PO replaced just the 1 vs them all.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quick question: Start up after 2 weeks - ticking noise from right bank. Warmed on short run. Quiet. No smoke. No water in oil. Normal oil consumption (close to nil normal running) Not there next morning startup. Just a sticky lifter in the valve train? Nothing to worry about? (Was common phenomenon on my E39 M5)

POST 2Original post

Post a video. It's a pretty rare phenomena for a lifter problem to come up.

POST 3Original post

Mine does that. Some ticking on cold start after sitting a few days. Doesn't do it if driven every day and doesn't do it when thoroughly warmed up. I am done worrying about it!

Mine does the same if I let it sit for a couple weeks. Ticks a little until warm then gone. I ignore it. Different oil might help, or might not.

Do you have any misfires logged?, from the research I have done a sticking intake lifter often gives a misfire CEL, especially on the 3.6 engines. I have occasional misfires on my car that I am trying to track down and I'm pretty sure its an intake lifter issue. I have all the cars history and PO had a persistent misfire that Porsche finally rectified by replacing a lifter, annoyingly the PO replaced just the 1 vs them all.

Started up perfectly this morning, so no video to show noise, sorry. I'm not stressing. If it was structural it would be there every cold start. It must be a lube thing after prolonged standing, as others have said.

No running issues with the engine. Haven't checked OBD outputs.
