Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I checked my paper work and it does show that the clutch is a 997 part number, but the pressure plate has a 996 number.
Leading evidence: 'Check paper work and it does show' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust wear, the upsdie is' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

They changed the line fittings on the 997, but not the master cylinder size or proportioning.

Suggestion
997s use a new pressure pplate that is slef adjusting for wear, the upsdie is that the clutch feel should be consitant for the life of the vechile.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I was reading another post...and someone said his 996 clutch was replaced with a 997 clutch giving him the "997 feel"....is this something the dealer is doing now? Just one clutch for 996/997's ? Anyone have any info on this?
There is only 1 replacement clutch for both. The 996 clutch part #'s have been superceeded by 997 part #'s in the Porsche parts system back when the 997 came out in late 2004. If you get a new clutch, it will be a 997 unless it is old stock. Just check with your dealer's parts department.
The pressure plate and disc will now both be 997' parts. Porsche changed the release bearing in 05' and 06', so now if you get a release bearing it will be the 06' part. The 997's use the 996's clutch operating cylinder, still a 996 part. There was a minor change to the clutch master cylinder. They changed the line fittings on the 997, but not the master cylinder size or proportioning. Most of the rest of the parts (lines, fittings, etc.) are still 996 parts.
I don't understand what the "997 feel" is. From my experience driving several 996's and 997's those with good fresh clutches feel about the same: fairly light with a high pedal release. I noticed that a friend of mine's 997 has a slightly lighter pedal than my 996. This could simply be due to a difference in the clutch spring on the pedal (Porsches revises them almost yearly). I have driven a few 996's with bad clutches. I noticed whenever the pedal was really stiffer or it would engage low that the dealers replaced it when they certified the cars.
997s use a new pressure pplate that is slef adjusting for wear, the upsdie is that the clutch feel should be consitant for the life of the vechile. the down side is when it gies there will be no warning
