I've used 17" rims on my 2001 and used them for one winter on my C4S, however, the 17's looked funny on the C4S so I bought 18" rims.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Checking tirerack it seems i can go either way. 18s would look better but thinking 17s might handle better in Northeast Ohio snow. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

17's look pretty wimpy on the car, but they work better in the snow so that's what I use. I don't know how much better they are than 18's in the snow (I have only driven my 996 on the 17" snows), however all the literature I have read indicates that a narrower tire performs better in the snow.

POST 3Original post

I use 17"s on my C2... i actually like the way they look, they are the boxster twists wheels. the advantage to 17s are they are cheaper, and I dont care as much if they take a beating... not that any wheel is safe in NYC!

POST 4Original post

18s might look better but wouldn't look very cool if you got stuck in the snow. I'd go with the 17s as well.

POST 5Original post

making sure you have a really good snow tire is probably more important than 17 vs 18. i have 18's and they were great in the snow, ice and slush.

POST 6Original post

I've used 17" rims on my 2001 and used them for one winter on my C4S, however, the 17's looked funny on the C4S so I bought 18" rims.

POST 7Original post

I don't think traction will be impacted on 17 versus 18..however it is said less wide tires perform better in snow...so that's a bigger factor. Just get whatever you like as far as size and style. I got 17s to save money...I'd rather spend that for a nicer summer setup..or maybe mods . thanks, Amir
