Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

You can drain about 2 gallons of coolant out using the drain plug on the back center of the engine, then clamp the hoses to the water pump before removing....or just take the hoses off and have a bunch of towels to collect the coolant that will pour out.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I've been driving my 99 c2 cab daily for the past week, and i get to work today, and it sounds like the cars got a rod knock, i shut it off, look underneath...nothing out of the ordinary...start it back up, sound goes away, blipped the throttle a few times...and it started making the noise again...and then...started shooting out anti freeze from the pump...damn. I was thinking of doing this myself, looks like the motor mount bar would be in the way taking the pump off...does it have to come out? support the motor? Anybody have a clue on how long this would take? list price on the pump? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Pump is less tan $300. Yes, you need to swing the engine carrier out of the way. Kind of straight forward process once you get under there and have a look, but you must provide for stable suport for the engine while doing it. Alot of other things have to be removed: belt, air cleaner assembly, and cat brackets. You can drain about 2 gallons of coolant out using the drain plug on the back center of the engine, then clamp the hoses to the water pump before removing....or just take the hoses off and have a bunch of towels to collect the coolant that will pour out.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks friend...i called around and a friends shop said $500 out the door...sounds worth it to me...i'll drop it off there tomorrow...thanks for the insight

POST 4Original post

Yeah it's about a 3.5 hour job. I was going to do it myself too. But after having to go get the coolant flush it, order the part, install the part etc. I decided it was worth 300 bucks to pay someone. I paid 650 which is pretty good. $50 of that was for "Porsche" coolant, whatever that means. Anyone know the difference?
