Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is there anyway to have the seat adjust itself based on the key used?

If I drive after my wife (or vice versa) we need to adjust the seat.

If that works, try to reset a new memory to the key:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys, my car..99 C4 Cab.
I need some help understanding how the seats work.
My setup looks like:
M 1 2 3
My key is a 1 button key. Right now I have to get in and hold the number to get the seat to adjust...is that how it's supposed to work?
Is there anyway to have the seat adjust itself based on the key used? I did some searches and they mentioned the key symbol..and I don't have a key symbol.
Now for the lights...
When I open the door...there is one red light on each door...they don't turn on. They are only on when the key is in the ignition and the door is open which defeats the purpose IMO. Is this normal?
At night...when the door is open..which lights typically turn on? Are there lights near the footwells?
Appreciate any help!
thanks,
Amir
I know the earlier 99 models do not have the key icon on the memory setting buttons.
But I think the key can still be programmed to work with your memory settings.
You should check with your manual, or dealer.
Was the key working fine before? Did this just started happening?
Why do you have to press the memory button to readjust your seat everytime you get in?
Is someone else driving the car with a different seat position?
If your key remote is causing your seat to go to a particular position everytime you disarm the car,
that means your key was programmed to that particular memory setting.
Try to erase the key memory:
Insert key in ignition, and turn ignition on.
While pressing the M button, press down button 3 at the same time and hold for at least 5 seconds.
(In cars with the key, 1 and 2 buttons, erasing the key memory is holding down button 2. But since yours is buttons 1, 2 and 3...I assume you should hold down button 3?)
If that works, try to reset a new memory to the key:
With the key in ignition, and ignition on,
Press and hold the M button while pressing 1 or 2 button (whichever setting is yours)
The next time you disarm the car with the key, the seats should remain or adjust to your memory setting.
Otherwise...either the key needs reprogramming, or the memory control module could be faulty.
The red lights on my doors and the light above the rearview mirror turn on whenever I open the door, before the key is inserted in the ignition.
Did you check that the switch on the overhead light (above the rearview mirror) is switched to the position to enable the lights to turn on with the door??
Right now my key doesn't do anything to the seat. If I drive after my wife (or vice versa) we need to adjust the seat.
I'll try what you said..with key in ignition and see what happens.
The light? I'm betting it's an ECU setting..like the auto-door locks.
thanks,
Amir
I'm trying to think it it would be preferential to have the seat moved back when using the key remote. Indeed, wouldn't you have to move the seat back to your desired position after it was valeted as the valet generally starts the car and moves the seat to the position that he can drive the car. Thus, when you get in the car, you'dhave to hold the seat memory button anyways. Otherwise, who else is driving the car that you need auto seat adjustment? Hmmm....
