Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace driving style' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace driving style' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Glad you asked that question. I usually shift at about 3k unless I am having fun. My 944/968 mechanic always said Porsche engines like to be rev'ed up and you will not hurt the engine or shorten it's life by doing so... Some older 911 books imply the same thing by observing how the higher rev'ing 911 Carrera (from way back when) was not suitable for American roads or the American style of driving...
In light of that, I am slowly changing my driving style to shifting at around 4k... The car certainly feels livelier there...
Anyone with more insightful knowledge than I, have anything to share on this?
Thanks in advance for feedback.

Sorry, but this makes me laugh a bit. Try riding a 2006 Yamaha R6...The rev-limiter kicks in at 16.200 rpm. Then take your Porsche for a drive...zzzzzzz
So while tooling around town you shift at 7k?
There's a time and a place for everything, while agressively driving I push the tach, but if I'm just crusing there's no point.
5-6k IS cruising around town for me...i don't usually drive like an old lady...i don't consistently red line either, but I am certainly not afraid to.
agreed with what a few of you have said...these engines like to rev, and the exhaust likes to sing....why deny such a beautiful thing?

Gotta agree with Dell.
Love to hear the PSE sing any chance i get.
Also when its cold, i love that poping/burble sound when you let it overrun from about 4-5k in second
I used to shift around 3k. Habit from driving other cars, but on this car I was having trouble staying smooth.
I discovered that shifts are actually easier and smoother if I rev a little higher. Now I shift closer to 4k.
I have typically shifted between about 4-5K, only recently have I started to shift about 3K when not getting on it. Believe it or not I only recently found sixth gear for that reason...if I just shift near 5K I basically seldom get to 5th and never get to 6th, so I have tried to shift sooner.
