Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Each car has about the same (low) miles. Each car had an MSRP of around $95k.
So, it's about style, platform & performance all wrapped up into value.
What do you guys think?
(BTW, I'm keeping the manual '98 C2S for weekends; the new car will be a tip and a daily driver. Oh... a turbo is NOT an option.)
Thanks for your insight.
wow.. with the euro/usd exchange rate these cars looks damn CHEAP for europeans!
why?
Euro 67-70k (or more if good tot. km and options) for '04 C4S
Euro 78-85K for '05 C2S
anyway... C2S is my opinio.. but if you can affort: 997 C4S is the one!!!!
I think the 04 C4S seems priced a bit high, if it were 6-8k lower I would consider it.
I wouldn't get a first generation 997, just like any other car. Porsche will change the styling and possibly engine on the 997 very soon. The C4S is the last year of the 996 and the 04 is fantastic, it will also look more timeless than the 997.
If you really like the 997 I would suggest waiting until Porsche changes the body style and/or features and buy a new one, otherwise I would give the C4S some serious consideration.
jmtc,
Rob
Platform, performance as a daily driver, go with the C2S. Value is a bit more difficult to asses, particularly several years from now. In the 996 line, the C4S stands out, even against the 997 line, IMHO.
Are they from a dealer (and if so are they Certified?) or a provate party? Yet another opinion that the C4s is overpriced. Does it snow where you live?
Rob, I respectfully disagree. My car was a steal at $57k. 2 years newer and prolly 7k miles lower, it should fetch close to $75k. Expecially if its Cert. and at a P dealer.
OP'r, give us ALL the options and exact miles on both cars. ALSO, are they Cert along with factory warranty? Are these being offered by a dealer or Private? This will give us a better idea of what these cars are worth. Options can swing the price of the car as much as 10 to $15k (if its fully loaded, no miles and Cert., but usually $2 to $5k for normal cars..
Here's the price for an average equiped 2004 C4S with average low miles. Expect to pay every penny for this car if its one owner in Mint condition w/ NO bad history.
Thank you to everyone for their comments.
I'm leaning very strongly toward the 997 C2S.
Need to have: Coupe, full leather, NO sport chrono plus (997 guys call it 'the wart'), tiptronic. Color combo: seal or atlas or black over grey or black.
Nice to have: NAV, sport seats, premium stereo, ceramic brakes.
The '04 C2S that I've been looking at has 5,500 miles, factory painted grill and lower rockers. It is offered by a private party.
Certified is not critical as there is sufficient time and miles left for factory warranty coverage on either car.
997 C2Ss seem to be available for between $68,500 - $75,000. Asking prices, of course, are higher (sometimes ridiculously so).
Of course I am biased towards the C4S, that understood, unless you have an affinity towards the 996, moreover the C4S, the 997S is the much better performer, updated cabin and will get you more cred on the street, IMO.
Believe this, if you can get EITHER of those rides for $72k, youd be getting a stellar deal.
A 2004 C4S w/only 5k miles, 1 owner, nicely equiped, MINT condition, sold at a P dealer Cert, could get as much as $80k.
Once again, it depends on the miles and the level of equipment on the car. I bought an '03 last year with 10K miles CPOed, no negative history. Just over $100K original sticker (i.e. well optioned) for $74K.
Thanks for all the input.
You guys helped me pull the trigger on a beautiful black '05 C2S configured with full black leather, tiptronic, PCCBs, sport chrono & a few other options. 12,500 miles on the odo. MSRP was $101,500. I paid $74K.
