Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace water pump due' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace water pump due' (1 discussions). Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I'm looking to buy a 99 C2 and I just had a PPI done today. The mechanic reported the following issues:
Coolant hose kinked and leaking
Seepage from piston #2
Underbody crossmember cover missing
Paint work on front bumper
Indications of possible front-end collision damage
The mechanic says the car drives well (no pulling or indications of anything being out of alignment) and the engine runs well. The seller had their mechanic replace the water pump due to a leak and is skeptical that the hose is kinked or still leaking. The car has relatively low mileage (38K).
I had the PPI done by the local dealership, so I'm leaning towards asking them if they would sell it as a CPO vehicle. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
"Seepage for piston #2"
Pistons don't seep, seepage can come from around the #2 cylinder area. What's leaking? Coolant, oil? and exactly where ? This could be fairly minor, major or near catistropic. I'd certainly find out more as this could lead to early motor replacement. Have a body shop check out possible front end damage. Sounds like a lot of justifying needed to keep this one a consideration from what I see. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the replies.
The seepage is from the #2 cylinder and the service manager is going to get back to me this morning to let me know if its oil or coolant.
It is a pretty good deal (very low $30s for 99 C2 with < 40K miles) but this will be my daily driver and occasional track toy so I need it to be reliable.
This sounds like it might be the infamous cracked cylinder liner problem. Cylinders 2 and 5 (the center cylinders on each side) are the most common hit. I would be very cautious, unless perhaps the previous owner has a transferable extended warranty that will net you a replacement engine.
For what it is worth, I would walk away. There are a lot of good 996s out there. Patience will payoff.
For the amount of money you note I think you can find another car in better condition. You are about to enter the off season, at least in Ohio, and prices tend to drop.
