I get to the light and a ***** in a jeep pulls up next to me and doesn't realize my windows were down and says out loud "just cause you drive a 'PORSH' you don't have to drive like an assh*$^!." I looked over and shouted "I didn't know a lane change with a blinker constituted bad driving ...********".

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Driving to work this morning in the Escape (have to shuttle some people/gear around later today). Off in la la land trying to mentally organize my day - see a silver flash coming down an on ramp ... 996 C4S. Watching the car slip through traffic reminded me how great looking p-cars are. Did my best to keep up for a while just to enjoy the view ... then he nailed it going up an off ramp .... it was fun just to watch, made my day.

POST 2Original post

they're even more fun to follow if there is a hottie driving the car

POST 3Original post

I have never "followed" one, but have been followed multiple times, even happened this am on way to work. Why is it that EVERYONE (it seems) wants to race Porshe drivers.....

POST 6Original post

How about a p-car (GT3 actually) being followed at about 180mph? http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...sche+911&hl=en apparently during the gumball 3000, these guys sat on the side of the road with their turbo supra and waiting for a gumballer to go by so they could "get in the chase"..............its amazing how quickly that gt3 can pull from that car at those speeds. Brian

POST 8Original post

I played cat and mouse with a 996 targa on the way to work yesterday. It looked and sounded great. Made me realize that's the view most people have of me. Put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. Incidentally, when we hit some traffic and I pulled along side to give a wave, this older gentlement stared straight ahead without acknowledging me. Obviously not a Rennlister.

POST 9Original post

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I thought it was me I get a response (flash or hand wave) about 1 in 5 Last time I was driving a P-car in 1993 it just seemed that almost everyone would give a wave or flash. I guess thats what happens when a car goes full production

POST 10Original post

There are about 5 pcars I see regularly in my town throughout the work week. It started off that nobody would return the courtious, I know how good you feel driving that car, wave I would throw at them. Now after a whole summer of breaking them in everyone waves, might I add with a big smile on their faces.

POST 11Original post

This morning I was tooling along at about 45 mph (in a 45) and decided to change lanes L to R since I was reaching my turn off point at the next intersection. I then realized that there are 3 types of people - those who have reached their goals, those who can appreciate someone reaching their goal, and that loser in the jeep.

POST 12Original post

Apparently people with Porsches in DC are too important, pretentious, or busy posing to share their enthusiasm or lack thereof with a fellow owner.

POST 13Original post

Agree...the view behind a 911 is a good one. The only better view has equally curvaceous hips but without the rubber and pipes. -- M

POST 14Original post

It is amazing how much attitude you get from other drivers just because of what you are driving. Even the most minor infractions get multiplied in the eyes of others due to the crest. It is even worse with a convertible where you hear everything they say all the time.

POST 16Original post

I passed pick-up on a long stretch of road in the evening and he ended up turning his high beams on, then flicking them on and off. He even followed me into the supermarket parking lot and waited for me to leave so he could key the hood. I saw the loser driving off from my car when I came out of the store, I never saw his face. I'm getting the hood repainted Monday. People like that don't go far in life. Just to add to it, I'm pretty sure I know who the guy is since he drove out of my neighborhood. My wife and I drove around the next day and found the truck. I confronted the guy a couple of weeks ago in front of his house and told him that I wasn't some rich a-hole, my wife bought me the car because I just beat leukemia and also beat death, (death won three times on superbowl Sunday 2006 but I really wanted to drive a Porsche before I went so I came back). I told him that I couldn't prove it was him but I new it was. I told him I just wanted to tell the person who he had done this too. I really wanted to kick his *** but I weighed about 160 down from 210 and was in the middle of chemothereapy. I don't think that break my nose would have been good at that time. I hope he sleeps well at night. You know, after he is done doing strange things to little animals. I guess it made him a big man to do that.

POST 17Original post

Sorry to hear. I getting my keyed panel painted in a few weeks. I'm only about 160 too, but if I saw the asshat who keyed my car, I'd probably be either in jail or in a hospital because even if the douche was 210, I'd probably try and kick his ***. On the bright side, you beat death and hopefully made that jerk-off think twice about being a jerk-off.

POST 18Original post

What's wrong with a little rubber? (but some rubber AND a pipe.. nooo .. that would be definate no-no for this guy)...

POST 19Original post

Wow ... that's very lame and childish of that guy. Wonder what happened in his childhood and how his outlook on life is ... The guys is a loser and he knows it too - making it more miserable for him. Anyway, I think you handled the situation in a very dignified manner. Hats off to you. Of course, this is miniscule compared your fight with the illness. My friends father is undergoing chemo and I know how difficult it is. Man, you should be proud of yourself. Sid

POST 20Original post

so what did he say in response after u confronted him? did he reveal why he did it, feel sorry?

POST 21Original post

He said nothing. He went so far as to say that he didn't own a pick up. It wasn't in his driveway when I went over there. But I've seen him in the truck since then. The guy denied anything and everything. I even ended up following him out of the neighborhood again and he was headed in the direction of the store. (We live out away from most markets and stores and there is only one that is somewhat close.) He suddenly turned off on a dirt road knowing I wouldn't follow. The confrontation was all cordial, but he knew and I knew what was going on. I just hope he's proud enough to tell his kids what he did. Because he's cool like that.....

POST 22Original post

I agree - everybody here is too important but I have had some success in getting a wave back about 65% of the time and even a flash about 20% of the time. Since DC drivers are absolutely atrocious, we need to keep our eyes on the 'other guy' to avoid being hit. This slows reaction time to the flash

POST 23Original post

I get a wave most of the time... but I know what you mean. I get the biggest kick out of following behind a 911... then an even bigger kick when it occurs to me that must be how others feel when they follow me.

POST 24Original post

Had someone tailgating me today, so I slowed down even more<s******> I really annoyed him as eventually he got passed although I did not speed up when he was trying overtake me to cut him off again. That one is fun too. I would understand if it was a teeenager but this loon had his wife and kids in the car. Slow down, do not speed, unless you have a clear 3 km stretch infront of you. They know you can speed, so by blocking their access really pisses them off

POST 25Original post

I wouldn't antagonize them further.. one of them will escalate the situation Let them pass; waive them by

POST 26Original post

As others have said, some people are already annoyed at you just for driving a Porsche... you being in their way just makes things worse.

POST 27Original post

The thing is when they get passed, they feel like a right dick anyway and you are laughing behind them. They can then in turn do the same thing to you but usually in my experience they just drive on as it is human nature that they must get passed you at all costs. Weird that huh? Testosterone brings out the nutter in us all.

POST 28Original post

I had the pleasure of driving behind a nice silver narrow-body 993 on the way hom Friday (I was in my MB cruise missle though... ). It was quite enjoyable to just admire that wonderful form. When I got home I popped open the garage and looked at mine for a while... just because... I'm really liking these cars more and more (and I was quite smittend with it to begin with!). Heck.. even my motorcycles, which includes a superbike, have not been touched since it came home.

POST 29Original post

Driving an old beater - you'd be surprised how many people see me, a young guy, driving a cheap car, waving at them - and grin huge and give me a big thumbs up back I guess most of them whom wave back have been where I am.

POST 30Original post

Well, if you mean driving a beater.. oh yes. I made quite a name for myself some decades back with my 1971 Pinto, green with a yellow passenger door and the James Bond smoke screen. Rebuilt the engine and started a 3- year camapign to Krylon paint the car every few months a radical new design. It had gotten so bad at times the $1.00 in my ashtray was the difference between me getting to work the next day and me *really* hitting rock bottom. I sure know that if someone in a beater honked and waved I would definitaly respond in kind!

POST 32Original post

hahahaha my car's not that bad, it's very reliable - but looks horrid. Right now, a flashy car is something I don't need and something that might make my financial life much harder in the future.

POST 33Original post

Hey, I did that this past weekend. I spotted a brand new black 997 (no license plate) doing 80-100 MPH in the Thosand Oak area. As I was enjoying the rear view of the 997's newer wider hip, I found myself following it in my MB 300E for a good 10 miles. Driving over the hill, the 997 left every car behind and just climbed that hill so easily. I wanted to go home and get behind the wheel of P so bad.
