Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm really interested in getting some red on my wheels to match my paint. Either something aftermarket or some Porsche wheels with some custom paint. Having a hard time deciding if I want a lot of red or just some highlights. I know I want to stay with 18" wheels. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

POST 2Original post

Don't do it. The weight of the paint will slow you down too much.

POST 3Original post

You mean something like this???? Personally, I think it would be too much red, even if the red was limited to the inside of the wheel surface.

POST 4Original post

If you go with red, I would go monochrome and use OEM wheels only. Color coding the wheels was an often chosen factory option back in in the nineties which I always found interesting. It's still an option with Porsche, but I haven't seen one in years with the exception of a few black turbos with black OEM wheels floating around. This look in red would be extremely rare on the 996 and quite stunning. But honestly, it would probably accelerate the aging of the vehicle in your eyes and would tear resale value to shreds (unless you kept your original wheels, that is). Don't expect to sell your red wheels on eBay at a profit though. You probably wouldn't be able to give them away. Go for it!

POST 5Original post

I think the Aero pkg with the color-coded sport seat backs AND matching wheels might be too much. Maybe look at a little bling with Chrome. I think you would find that the body color really gets highlighted with chrome. I think your car is perfectly set up for a bit more bling and you would get it with some cool chrome wheels. Other than the 19" chromes I had on my HUMMER, my 996 is the only time I have had chrome wheels and I LOVE how they make the paint POP.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK. I post this knowing full well that a lot of you will hate it. It doesn't help that the picture is in need of color correction and looks almost orange. But I'm seriously thinking about doing something like this... I could care less about resale value so at least that worry is gone. I just think these wheels would be hot if they were really well done. Maybe even powder coated to match the paint.

POST 7Original post

Maybe only paint the sides of the spokes (hope you understand what I mean) saw this on TV they did it to the rims of a Lambo and it looked pretty good....Unique Whips on Speed TV.....
