Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anybody see this DIY for the RMS prob? I found it by mistake: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/996rms/rms1.php

POST 2Original post

DO NOT INSTALL THE RMS THAT WAY UNLESS YOU LIKE TO CHANGE THEM

POST 3Original post

This was posted a long time ago and some ppl pointed out a few mistakes...Also, the new seal has a green sleeve and will require special tool to make it sit properly. - Ahsai

POST 4Original post

The RMS install must be done with the new RMS tool and updated seal or you will be back in there shortly after replacing it again.

POST 5Original post

and your damn lucky if sucesfully you change the intermediate shaft seal the way it shows in the other rms diy

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My bad, glad you guys caught it. I had no intention on doing the RMS myself and had ASG replace mine. I just thought the DIY might be useful with all the photos.

POST 7Original post

I did this procedure. Just do a search: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/286452-results-of-my-diy-maintenance-and-rms.html Let me know if you have any questions. There are some things the original author did that i wouldnt but he seems to be doing fine.

POST 8Original post

if your change your intermediate shaft seal/support the way shown there your playing russian rollete with 5 live shells

POST 10Original post

Not trying to hijack thread but, I was under the impression with the new seal the green sleeve was the seal lip protector and was removed prior to installation? Correct me if I am wrong anyone or did I misinterpite the reply

POST 11Original post

Yes the sleeve is not installed, but it is used in the installation to align everything(you dont want to touch the seal). The special tool does all the work

POST 12Original post

200-300 at least, theres a much more complicated procedure for it setting the motor at tdc and pinning it pulling chain tensioners newer vario+ cars should have the cams locked if the crank isnt at tdc the timing could jump when you pull the bearing support............. that means bent valves which means big money ive seen guys do it ................... the green seal protector is installed with the seal onto the the instalation tool the tool installs the rms and the green sleve stays on the instaltaion tool. per porsceh the green protectior should be left on the tool untill the next time the tool is needed to protect the lip of the the tool
