Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is that sound-almost a whine coming from the engine compartment for the 1st min. or so after start up and why is mine starting to get louder?

POST 3Original post

Secondary air pump would be my first guess? I had mine replace last March. Cost of the pump is about 1k. CPO covered my replacement.

POST 4Original post

I have to agree with RAC, i had mine replaced under CPO too...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's great to hear it's covered be CPO.

POST 6Original post

it's definitely secondary air pump (smog pump in the old days) all cars have them, and they all make noise, more pronounced when cold outside, or when the pump is in its latter stages of life.

POST 7Original post

What is the purpose of the secondary air pump. My understanding is that it warms up the catalytic converters? As far as it making more noise at the latter stages of life, does that mean I can leave it alone until the day that I stop hearing it?
