Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There are occasions where I have to leave my car outside in the driveway overnight. (The 930 Cab takes priority over the 996 coupe) I cover it with a cloth cover that locks on with a cable, but the covers aren't much of a deterrant. I would like to know a quick and easy disabling technique...like what wire to pull off that would diable the vehicle without having to take accessories off to get at it....... I had a friend who used to install one of those old foot operated dimmer switches under the carpeting up high on the left side of the floorboard where the old dimmer switches used to be. Since it was under the carpet, no one knows its there....and he wired it to cut off the electrical circuit to the fuel pump. Some cars have cut off switches, but crooks know to look for switches on the dash or under it. It worked great (but you had to remember to trigger it when you got in to start the car)...a bad guy might get in the car and hotwire it, but after it doesn't start right away, the bad guys usually wont stick around to try to figure out what the problem is. But that's an involved process, and I just need a quick pull-the-plug sort of suggestion.

POST 2Original post

Pull the fuse for your ignition or the coil wire. You could easily wire in a toggle switch under the dash that would prevent the car starting even with the key or forcing the ignition switch. When I have to leave my Harley somewhere for a few minutes and forget the key I jerk the spark plug wires off. The engine will still crank but won't fire.

POST 3Original post

un plug the distrubtuor or put a battery cut off switch on the battery

POST 4Original post

There are a number of remote-control-activated battery cut-off switches on the market. Check with a boat supply store, such as West Marine.
