POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there, Ive recently taken the lead on a group buy posting after Ivan purchased his new GT3. Hence I need to ask those that are interested contact me directly so I can compile a new list of members that would be interested in going forward at this price. I dont have any discount pricing just yet since I dont have a real number to work with. Many of you have already contacted me with your intentions and ideas. A lot of you have also asked me for pricing right now which is pretty much impossible to give out without a real number of those who are in. Once I have a good idea of those who are interested I will then be able to give out pricing which should be good for different size groups just incase we have any fallouts. The kits come with CD-ROMs, instructional video, and instruction booklets for the installation but it is highly recommended that you get this installed by a trained professional. I can also suggest whom you can contact locally for an appointment. Once we can determine who those participates will be we will coordinate with your local facilities for shipping or if youd prefer we can ship the kit directly to you. As soon as your units ship you will be provided with tracking information immediately. Should you be HIGHLY interested in the group buy please E-mail me with you contact information as listed below to [email removed] FULL NAME (INCLUDING LAST) PHONE (ALTERNATE SUGGESTED) E-MAIL IF DIFFERENT THAN LISTED YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL (ENGINE SIZE 3.4 OR 3.6) COMPLETE ADDRESS (LOCATION WILL HELP DETERMINE LOCAL SHOPS) If you have any questions regarding pricing please dont ask since I will not have a complete count for a few days. If you have general questions please feel free to post and Ill try to reply ASAP M-F to keep everyone informed. Ill probably let this post go for a week at least to give an opportunity to those to respond. Once I have a strong count I will then contact you all via E-mail to give out pricing depending on the size of the group. Thanks again for your cooperation, -Eli www.pelicanparts.com

POST 4Original post

Hi Eli, Thanks for taking the lead here. I am interested but need to know more about this product. Some of these questions may have been answered in the past, so I apologize if there is any redundancy. Thanks in advance everyone. Questions: 1. Is the HP/TQ gain a constant variable on top of the mods you already have on the car? 2. Assuming that you have many mods on your car and a custom ECU program, getting a modified ECU from EVO for a stock car would just not be optimal. I assume it would require fine tuning at the dyno. Has anyone done this? If yes, what type of gains have you observed on your car? 3. The 8000+ RPM range is really helpful at the track. Can you keep the same range with the SC? How does the car pull across the RPM and the gears? 4. Can you adjust the SC for street or for racing (different tracks, diverse requirements)? If anyone is racing with EVOs SC, Id be interested in your experience. 5. I understand that once you install the SC, the car would not pass the smog in CA. If this is correct, how do people deal with this problem? Is EVO currently doing something about it? When will this problem be corrected? 6. Besides the HP/TQ number, are there any performance numbers i.e. top speed (for each gear), acceleration, etc. that have been measured professionally? 7. Are there any known issues related to specific mods done prior to installing the SC which could prevent the installation or cause issues? 8. Are there any issues related to maintenance once the SC is installed? 9. What is the weight of the whole SC kit? 10. What is the operating temperature of the SC? Has anyone experience temperature issues under any circumstances? 11. Does anyone have video footage other than what has been posted on EVOs website? Even better if its a track session... 12. For the pioneers, who did your install, how much did it cost and how long did it take? 13. Who in the Bay Area has an SC? Id love to come by and get a ride...

Gt-Racer: You are best to contact Todd at EVO directly for your answers to your questions.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry for the delay, I was out picking up a car for the next book..... 1999Porsche911 "Good Idea" GT, it sounds like you need some tech support and results that only EVO can provide to you directly. I would be more than happy to tell you that in the only 75 996's who have done this upgrade none have blown.... But a conversation with Todd may do a lot..... Good luck, -Eli

POST 8Original post

What are the california guys going to do about smog? That is one of the main things holding me up. Todd mentioned before that this was coming, but I haven't heard anything in a while.

POST 9Original post

What dealer problems might one expect, aside from the obvious?

POST 10Original post

MAF replacement under warranty will be out the window Blown engine would be out the window Anything potentially to do with the intake manifold might be out the window? I told me Porsche centre I was going to do it but didnt warn me about the warranty in any way. I asked them about the RMS and they said it wouldnt be an issue. More info would be greatly appreciated too

POST 11Original post

Thanks guys, I will definitely call Todd and post what I can find out. I am also very much interested in knowing more about personal experiences, the good and the bad. Thanks again. Hi Jeeva, thats my car. Ill post something in a different thread sometime. Cheers!

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gentlemen, Ive had a number of you contact me with your information and Im planning on putting a list out here on the board of how many members I have so far. Ill do this either late today or on Monday. Ill only put out your fist name on that list; no personal information will be displayed for your peace of mind. Ill refrain from answering technical information at this time. Todd at EVO can answer those questions or concerns you may have. Im hoping to give us enough time to generate at least 10 so I can pursue the biggest discount available.. Thanks again for your cooperation, Once again if you have any questions regarding this group buy Ill be more than happy to address them here on the forums or via E-mail at [email removed] . -Eli

POST 13Original post

Here are some answers from EVO. Anyone with SC'ed video clips? Thanks. Q&A 1. Is the HP/TQ gain a constant variable on top of the mods you already have on the car? - Yes, it will add on top of what you have already done to the car. 2. Assuming that you have many mods on your car and a custom ECU program, getting a modified ECU from EVO for a stock car would just not be optimal. Would it require fine tuning at the dyno? - Not a problem for stock cars. Need to investigate more for cars that have engine mods such as high-perf. camshafts or eng. displacement upgrades. 3. The 8000+ RPM range is really helpful at the track. Can you keep the same range with the SC? - Yes. 4. Can you adjust the SC for street or for racing (different tracks, diverse requirements)? - Yes, it can be done (boost control), but it is not recommended. 5. I understand that once you install the SC, the car would not pass the smog in CA. If this is correct, how do people deal with this problem? Is EVO currently doing something about it? When will this problem be corrected? - It will pass the smog test, but not the visual inspection. The recommendation is to make the SC install after you pass the inspection and get the 2 year period. 6. Besides the HP/TQ number, are there any performance numbers i.e. top speed (for each gear), acceleration, etc. that have been measured professionally? - A stock car would reach a top speed of ~190mph, 0-60mph in the low 4s, 1/4mile ~12s. 7. Are there any known issues related to specific mods done prior to installing the SC which could prevent the installation or cause issues? - Not sure about throttle body, camshafts or engine displacement upgrades. 8. Are there any issues related to maintenance once the SC is installed? - No. 9. What is the weight of the whole SC kit? - 50-60lbs including the water. 10. What is the operating temperature of the SC? Has anyone experience temperature issues under any circumstances? - Runs out of the factory oil system. No issues seen so far.

POST 19Original post

Regarding CARB issues, 2 years will go by awfully fast. Any idea what's involved to be able to pass the visual inspection? If the SC is removed, would the ECU have to be remapped?

POST 20Original post

If somebody is also considering buying the stage ii clutch and light flywheel from EVO MS for a 3.4L engine, PM me. I ordered it but I can't use it anymore.

POST 21Original post

I have 5,000 m on my SC in an 02 C4S. Early install problems (#19) included clearance on the belt to a radiator hose and I still have CEL problems although it runs great. The air cleaner is a bit hard to get to and gets dirty fast but is cheap (K&N). I am changing mine now and trying to get hard pipes made to replace the two pieces made of black plastic that are under pressure (just for grins). I will post pictures if and when done. The belt also requires changing at least as often as oil change (10 to 15 K). All this maintanence is above and beyond Porsche recommendations but is worth it to me for the incredible performance. I have tracked my car a few times and it is a different animal. I plan to get the car fine tuned by EVO in March and the LWF and Sachs clutch then to handle the extra power. Will

POST 22Original post

I am able to remove the aftercooler and all necessary plumbing and air filter in less than 15 minutes. It's quite easy once you have done it. Puting the new filter in takes the same amount of time. Be sure that all hoses are put back on properly and tight to avoid leaks. What's wrong with the standard plumbing pipes that came with the SC? I think they are great and they are silky smooth on the inside which allows for maximum air movement.

POST 23Original post

If you over tighten the hose clamps the plastic will fold and you can get air leaks. If you are changing the filter every 5000 m plus the belt every 10 to 15 k thats a lot off on and off in 50000+. Its is not that hard to do hard pipes. Will

POST 24Original post

I have had mine off and on (entire SC system) more than 15 times. I have no problem with over tightening or leaks. Make sure you place the clamps on the same part of the tubing as it was originally. Let me know if you find any replacement plumbing.. I would be curious as to what they are like.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Install usually takes 8-12 hours from what I've been told..... Could vary depending on who's making the install...... -Eli

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you to those who have contacted me with interest of making this group purchase happen. I have compiled a list of those who have expressed interest and have sent out a E-mail with updated information. Please read the entire message before sending out any replies. Please check your E-mail inbox for this update. -Eli [email removed]

POST 27Original post

What are the chances of seeing the installation paperwork? Just to see what it totally entails. I still havent heard whether the engine needs to be dropped to do the install? Also saw Kirby's car during install, why are the head lights out? When the bumper comes off do the headlights need to go as well?

POST 28Original post

Arthur I forget why the headlights came out, but I think there was a good reason. Plus the headlights are so easy to remove. The Engine does need to be dropped a little to install new Fuel injectors.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The headlights can be removed in just a couple of minutes. Because of the value $$$$ especially on lectronics it's always better to remove them when working in that proximity.... -Eli

POST 30Original post

The Engine does need to be dropped a little to install new Fuel injectors. Who told you that? I have removed and reinstalled all 6 injectors with no engine movement.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"Small hands"? You can come over and help me change plugs any time! -Eli

POST 32Original post

OK, it does not really need to be dropped, but it's easier to drop the engine to change the injectors which is why many will drop the engine.

POST 33Original post

I guess it would be easier, but I don't unnderstand why anyone would go to all that effort when it isn't necessary. Maybe that's why some places charge so much to install one. You can replace the injectors in less than an hour sitting on a chair behind the car. I would suspect it would take longer than that to lower the engine and put it back up. Maybe my long arms help.

POST 34Original post

99, Have you had a chance to track yours yet? Any probs at the track, one guy I saw had a bad oil leak from one of the lines? Chris

POST 35Original post

Chris, I never track the car. I haven't tracked a car since my life at Limerock. Sometime go to the drag strip for some legal fun, but that's it. I hve no probelms with leaking or burning oil. The only oil line that could leak (that was installed with the SC) is the supply line from the back of the engine to the SC and then the drain line from the SC to the engine block. I did brak the oil injector fitting on the SC a few months ago after I removed it to clean it. I busted it off by tightening too much. That was 1 day before I left with the car for Vegas. I had a new fitting shipped overnight and installed it "snuggly". The SC would cause the oil lines to leak by itself anyway, since it has no effect on oil pressure. Probabably just an improperly tightened connection somewhere.

POST 36Original post

what are your 1/4 mile times at the drag strip with the SC?

POST 37Original post

Don't know. I haven't run a 1/4 mile with the SC. ( in earnest) I run 0 -100. Best time was 8.93 seconds on my street tires at full preasure. I just do it for tuning purposes. I am not concerned (don't even care about official times) as I just like to see whether mods I am doing are helping or hurting my bottom end power and speed. I could guess, but I could also guess at the HP I have, but it would only be a guess. A buddy at Great Lakes takes care of me. I have always tuned my cars for 0 - 100 so that is a good benchmark for me.

POST 39Original post

0-100 at 8.93 is pretty fast My biggest fear is not the power I can get out of the engine, but what the power could do to the drivetrain. I purposely use street tires at high PSI becasue I want the wheels to be the breaking point and not something else twisting. The car sucks off the line, but I have reagualrly gotten 4 second 0 -60 even without the best of traction conditions. This is in nice criip temps too. The colder weather hurts the traction, but it seems to more than make up for the loss once I get going. I may be tempted some day to lower the pressure in the rear tires to 15 - 20 psi and really let the engine rip, but I will have to convince myself that I don't mind buying a new clutch or maybe something even more expensive afterwards. I just like to have fun with the car. The are so many muscle cars. Porsche Turbo's and ricers around this area. It kinda fun to pull away from them in my "sleeper" of a 996. And that's what life is about...having fun.

POST 41Original post

You should seriously take it to a track just to see for yourself what the car is capable of, I'm sure there is one similar to limerock out there. I love that track BTW, my car eats up limerock!

POST 42Original post

You should seriously take it to a track just to see for yourself what the car is capable of, I'm sure there is one similar to limerock out there. I love that track BTW, my car eats up limerock! I would have to learn to drive the track again. I also don't have the guts I used to have and that would probably cause me to make some serious mistakes at the track. Everytime I am out driving, I ask myself how many times I would have died in this car if I owned it when I was 18, and was, as all 18 year old drivers think---the best driver on the road. I remember the controlled 4 wheel slides through the corners (and sometimes not so controlled) and trying to slide even more in the next corner. Now, I am more concerned about making sure that I DO NOT slide, which proves that I have gotton too cautious in my driving. It may be my age, maybe because I have a family, or just maybe I am too lazy to learn again, but whatever it is, it woud be extremely dangerious for me to track the car thinking this way. BTW: I loved Limerock and used to go all the time cuz I lived close to it. But the last time I tracked a car was in 1977....so you can see that it was a long long time ago. I grew up tracking cars in corn fields which was a lot of fun.

Hi all, I just wanted to send an update to everyone who may have had some interest in this group buy. We currently have THREE participants and need a minimum of FIVE to make the pricing stick. Ive managed to get pricing down to around 20% off list with a group purchase. Ill only be able to honor this pricing if I get a minimum of FIVE participants. Basically Im bumping this thread in hopes that there are others out there who have contemplated or jumbled with the idea. The pricing is amazing, as Im sure those of you who have ventured to look around.. Please feel free to contact me directly for participation in this group buy. Like I said I only need two more at a minimum. So far I have Glen G., Keith A. and Carlos R. on the confirmed list with a deposit. If you need technical assistance or need technical advise please feel free to contact EVO directly. You can also read through this thread to view the exchange of technical Q&A others have posted. [email removed] or [phone removed] Ext. 258 Call to be placed on the list for this group purchase. -Eli

POST 58Original post

?? Thought you were Kirby. Thanks Eli, the car is now fantastic!! I can't believe the power this thing develops. And the icing on the cake is the improved fuel economy.

POST 59Original post

Ivan, I made the move as well. Best purchase I have ever made! dscn1025_copy1.jpg

POST 62 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Leon, you're very welcome!!! Glad to see everything worked out, nice "cake" you have there.... With $3.00 per gallon coming soon, it's a good argument.... -Eli

POST 63 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ivan, Glad to see that everything is done on yours too!!!! COME ON GUYS LETS POST SOME PICS FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE "ME INCLUDED"..... -Eli

POST 64 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 65Original post

I bought a pre-owned 2000 996 cab and there is for sure a lack of power in the 1st gear. Cannot even race at the lights with cheaper Jap cars! My car has the upgraded exhaust and a CUP Aerokit. That's it. If I want to facelift to >2002 headlights do I need also to change the front fenders? As for the EVO SC system, if I order from the states, do I have to pay for taxes? I live in HK. And any authorized person to install this system?

POST 66 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there and welcome! You're going to need to change out more than just a couple of fenders.. FYI If you're outside of the state no taxes will be paid when you purchase but it's up to your customs office to deal with taxes on your end. I know they're going to want their cut if you know what I mean..... As for installation centers your best bet is going to be your dealer or any "Excellent" Porsche shop... The kit comes with at video for installation. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me at: [email removed] -Eli

POST 67Original post

Eli, how much is the charger with your discount? I thought the charger was $10k, so I subtracted $2k??? Thanks.

POST 68 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last group buy was limited so we were only able to get a discount of around 15% for the group.... I was hoping to get a larger group but unfortunately we had around 15 who said they were 95% sure but they soon fell off making it difficult to get the -DEEP- discount I was shooting for.... I'd be open to do an other run if there was enough interest out there...... -Eli

POST 69Original post

Now...the main concern is the modification for the other parts of the car that's needed. Is there requirement in changes in flywheel? tip gearbox? brakes? Any suggestions? So does that mean it is being quoted at USD10k?

POST 70 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you're interested in an idividual purchase I can still offer pricing out to save some on the purchase. Regarding other parts that will need replacing I would say it's like anything else.... How much $$$ do you have? I mean it would be great to complete a nice cer-brake set up but who has 20K for that? To answer your question: All upgrades needed come in the kit which include the center radiator.... -Eli

POST 71Original post

Because of shipping delays and installation delays on my end, I guess I'm about the last of the group to get their SC installed. But I've had it now for several days, and all I can say is WOW! Above 3-4K it feels like a whole new engine. I can't wait to get the car on the track. Suspension mods (probably PSS9) are next on the list. Thanks, Eli, for pulling the group buy together.... I know it wasn't easy! =Carlos=

POST 72Original post

For anyone that hasn't seen Ivan's GT3 in person, its a nice looking ride. Almost made me jealous as all I have is a plain Jane 1999 Carrera 2. *grin* BTW, Ivan thanks for the deal on the fabspeed Air intake kit and the air filter. I'm loving the better throttle response and the growl at wide open throttle.

POST 73 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Carlos, Glad to see that you've finally installed your SC...... Yes, more than 30 contacts only a small hand-full of you actually got in on the deal..... Pics would be great when you get a moment! Once again "Your welcome".... -Eli

POST 74Original post

Very cool to see that some folks took the offer to get this kit. And kudos to Eli for spearheading it...he is owed at least a beer for all his hard work and organization. I hope you guys are enjoying your SC's as much as I am. I drove my car in today...God what a BLAST!!!

POST 75 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Robyn, Do you ever come donw this way? So. Cal or are you a local "only"? I'll be in Santa Barbara the third week in April to participate in an event..... How far away is that... too-far? BTW: A beer would be nice. . . "Not sure how warm it would be once Carlos sent it over...." -Eli

POST 77Original post

I am in LA often in the summer time. I try to coordinate my visits when you guys have drives or CC. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the Santa Barbara run as I have a track day planned that weekend. But, I do make it often (once a month during the late spring/summer).

POST 78Original post
