I ran 2 sets of wires for the dash speakers, prettty easy.

the focal tweeter has a raised ridge...so i cut a notch for this to fit in on the dash pod, then used silcone to seal it in.

I mounted the Focals seperates...in the dash, and used the old speakers as the mounts, then removed the door pods and modified them....Here is a pic of the stock door pod with the 6.5" Focal driver...

Suggestion
Are there two sets of wires going to the dash speakers or do you have to run another set for the two components?

I have 4" mids...but I actually think they are more like 3.5" but I didnt measure..the box says 4"...Yeah you can probably modofy the door to use a free air speaker, but I didnt want to do that much modding...so I modified the pod....Mine is ported, but I think there is a newer pod which is longer and fits in the same space that is sealed...I think this came in 2002+ cars....I am not worried too much with these producing frequencies under 200hz...I will have a sub for the low end....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK...I have the Kenwood Nav touchscreen head unit..DDX-7015....with Sirius radio....I love the deck and wanted to upgrade the sound....so I got the Focal 165V3E 3 way seperates, and the Audison LRX300.4 amp....Installed the amp in the trunk, used the stock rears(for now) and will drive them off the head unit. The fronts are off 2 channels of the ampo, and I will run a footwell sub off the other 2 channels bridged. I mounted the Focals seperates...in the dash, and used the old speakers as the mounts, then removed the door pods and modified them....Here is a pic of the stock door pod with the 6.5" Focal driver...
That is fantastic. It's exactly what I had in mind doing as well. Thanks for the photo.
Incidentally, how did you hold/mount the speaker in the door pod? Glue? Screws? Thanks.
That's beautiful!!! Unfortunately, I'm not so savvy with installations of this sort. Any recommendations for a reliable place in SoCal to get this kind of work done?
That touch screen rocks!
What size are the midrange speakers that I assume you installed in the dash? Did you have to use 3.5" or can you fit 4" speakers in there?
Do you have to use the door pod for the 6.5" speakers (i.e. without them is there anything to screw the speakers into)? Are the door pods sealed? If so, did you consider making a hole in the back of the pods to give the speakers more airspace? Normally speakers can't produce nearly as much bass if they are in a small enclosure. I made holes in my custom fiberglass kick panels that were installed by an elite car stereo installer in my old car a few years ago and it helped the speakers immensely. When the kick panels were sealed, the speakers would struggle at80-100 hz. They were crossed over below that. I have 5.25 Q Series MB Quarts that are definitely free air speakers that sound better with more air behind them.

Very nice newport 996! I am looking at upgrading the speakers as well. Coule questions:
* Does the door panel fit back over the 6.5" speakers?
* Where did you mount crossover? Are there two sets of wires going to the dash speakers or do you have to run another set for the two components?
* Anything to watch out for mounting the 165VE3's?
thanks
Yes the door panel fits without any issues over the 6.5 inch speaker...you do need to make sure the speaker is flush with the top of the door pod. Screw it in snd use silicone to seal it and make sure its airtight. I mounted my crossovers wher ethe original amp was...they are easily accesible for adjustment. I ran 2 sets of wires for the dash speakers, prettty easy. For the door speakers I used the existing wires. No advice except take your time and dont be afraid to dremel! Oh for the dash speakers you need to dremel off the mounting holes for the speakers...then you need to cut the original speakers and use them to mount the new ones....use silicone to seal them....the tweeters, you need to cut the old tweeter mounts out. the focal tweeter has a raised ridge...so i cut a notch for this to fit in on the dash pod, then used silcone to seal it in.
