Unfortunately I will have the same problem with the cup splitter as with the MKII OEM splitter that I orignially purchased using 996-505-986-92-01C.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a Polar Silver 2000 996 with the factory Aero Kit (see Pic), unfortunately the front lip is a bit nasty from curb rash. I would like to replace it with something a bit more pronounced. Can anyone identify the lip on the yellow 996 car? I like the black look in the pic, but cannot tell i it is carbon fiber or just painted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if it was from a 2000-2001 GT3 or not. Do you know of a good aftermarket outfit that carries them? Jeff

POST 5Original post

Notice how some stay with the yellow corner lights...............I have not found a color where they look good..and for 40 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

POST 6Original post

Oh? How about black? BTW, I think this thread has the part number you are looking for: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4095 .

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great! The link was very helpful. The final lip on the maroon 996 looks very nice. With my silver car it should add just the touch I am looking for. The current silver lip is a bit too subtle. I'm just a bit hesitant to drill holes in the underneath of the bumber, but if that's what it takes then so be it. I also like the clear lens on the GT3, unlike mine in orange.......someday!!! Thanks again, Jeff

POST 8Original post

First lip is the one on the Mk1 GT3 front and the second lip (yellow car) is the MkII GT3 lip but on a MkI front. I did the same thing to my car some time back and LOVE it! FYI.....that link is of my car and it is NOT maroon. It is ARENA RED!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry about that dude! You are so right, no offence meant. I love Porsches, but I am not an expert by any means, as you can tell from my original post. But I am willing to learn! What do you think of the rims on my Silver car? They are Champion Motorsports RG5 19x10 and 19x8.5. I am still undecided if I should swap them out or not and I dont want to be too rash in making any hasty decisions. I just picked up the car (actually it was delivered) on Sunday. Only my 3rd Porsche, but first 996. My other two previous cars were an 89 944 S2 and a 96 993 (see pics). Quite honestly, the 996 has a much better feel and ride that the 993, IMO of course. Thanks, Jeff

POST 10Original post

Absoultely LOVE those RG5's!!! I would get those myself if I could just get that expense past the wife No biggie on the color.....I was just razzin ya Everybody thinks it is marron until I park it next to a maroom car and then you really see just how red, arena red is. Nice choice of cars of the years. The silver aero 996 is just divine

POST 11Original post

The MkII is from an 02+ right? So should fit the normal 02+ bumber with no problems?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The splitter on the Yellow MKI is not the MKII GT3 splitter. The one on the Yellow MKI is different that the splitter on the Arena Red Cab. I purchased the MKII splitter (factory Porsche: 996 505 986 92 01C) for my MKI car, and it does not fit well at all. Regardless of the mis-alignment of the mounting holes which was clearly stated in the other thread, it sticks out too far at the corners. Since the MKI (99-01) is more rounded than the MKII (02-04) it does not fit right, so I am planning to send it back. So the questions still stands, does anyone know what the front splitter is on the Yellow MK1?? THANKS!

POST 13Original post

I do not have the part number off hand (would have to go through my reciepts) but if you give me a sec I will go look for it and confrim what you have. standby..................

POST 14Original post

Ok, so I found the problem. Make sure you got 996 595 986 92 and not 996 505 986 92. Check you receipt for the part number as well as the lip itself. Here is the writeup over on Renntech I was referring to: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4095

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh No! I bought the wrong lip! I did purchase 996-505-986-92-01C instead of the 996 595 986 92! My Bad, I did not notice the slight hand movement with the different part numbers in the orignal thread. I'll re-order from Sunset, hopefully they'll take back the original one back. Thanks for clarifying that for me! -- Jeff

POST 17Original post

Hey Dell, glad you are back. I know you have been moving into the house. Are you all settled now? I am checking on that info you requested in your email. I'll try to get back to you in a couple of days.

POST 18Original post

Back in a limited sense for now. Getting closer. Not too many boxes left and maybe another couple weekends worth of work and we will be "settled' in. Hit me up in email when you find something out

POST 19Original post

Dell - will that front lip that Jeff bought (the wrong one) fit on my '04 stock front bumber cover? He ordered 996-505-986-92 instead of the 996 595 986 92.

POST 20Original post

I have no idea what the diff b/t 505 and 595 is. Sorry.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I tried to order part 996 595 986 92 from Sunset, they do not have such a part in their catalog. Nor do they have a 996 595 986 92 with either the 01C or 00 suffix. They only have the one I ordered 996-505-986-92-01C for the MKII splitter and the original smaller 90 degree splitter 996-505-986-00 for the MKI. I must be missing something here. Is there anyway you can double check your order or spolier to validate the part number? Depending on who you purchased it from, it sould be on the original receipt or in their customer database. Any additional help would be greatly appreciated! -- Jeff

POST 22Original post

I think I am slipping in my old age. The part number is 505 not 595. Where in the world did I get 595 from anyway? So you DO have the correct part number in yout posession. I think I might know what your issue might be. What front bumper do you have? The standard bumper or the Aero (GT3MkI) front?

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since Sunset does not carry the cup splitter, I called Porsche Motorsports and they have the 996-505-986-91 cup spolier, but it was designed to fit the MKII club car only and will not fit the MKI. To my surprize the cost of the cup splitter was around $100. Unfortunately I will have the same problem with the cup splitter as with the MKII OEM splitter that I orignially purchased using 996-505-986-92-01C. Also, they do not have any part number 996-595-989-92. The hunt for an explanation is still on.....

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the Aero GT3MkI (see pic of silver car in the original post).

POST 25Original post

there is no need for further explanation without pics from you explaining why you think it is wrong. .......then there is something else we are not seeing. did you read the thread I posted for you over at Renntech? I have the MkI front and the "505" MkII splitter and it looks great. There are pics in that thread as well.

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, Yes, the thread you sent is where I got the original part number. But for some reason, the splitter sticks way out towards the front of the car at the corners, almost as much as two inches or so, exposing the original mounting lip and holes. On your car, and the yellow coupe, it appaears to follow the contour of the bumper very nicely, which is why I thought we may have two different parts. It is however quite feasible that they are the same parts. I though about making a series of slices in the mounting lip of the splitter so that I could "bend" it into shape, but didin't want to rig it to look unprofessional or sloppy. Or maybe it's just that the spoiler I have is not as well shaped (i.e. factory defect) as the one you received or as the one on the yellow 911.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do you have any closup pics of the splitter at the corners? Perhaps by looking at how yours looks upclose I will be able to determine if I have a splitter that is a bit out of shape, which would explain the difference, even though we have the same part. From the pic of the yellow coupe, it appears to flow very nicely with the MKI bumper, which is not the situation with the splitter I have.

POST 29Original post

Perhpaps you didn't check out the Renntech link, You have snip off the ends of the of MK2 splitter for it to work with MK1 (99-01 GT3) bumper. Perhaps this is what he is saying when he says it sticks out too far.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in Salt lake City this week at an IT conference. I'll take some pics of the splitter when I get home on Friday and post by Saturday. The splitter I have must be the same one you have, based on the identical part numbers. Perhaps I just need to form it a bit to the bumper. It just doesn't look like yours, on your Arena Red Cab, or like the one on the yellow MKI in the first post. Maybe I'm just making too much of it and should just work with it, but based on your description of how it fit nicely to the contour of your bumper, I was expecting mine to be a better match, with of course the exception of how it mounts on the sides of the front bumper. In response to the other post, I realize that the ends do protrude into the wheel wells and have to be trimmed before/after fitting. I hate to keep bothering you with all of this, but I appreciate the help. Boy, it sure would be nice/easier if someone manufactured a MKII splitter that fit on the MKI bumper!

POST 31Original post

Go back over the Renntech link. I mounted the middle hole that was precut but ALL the rest I had to drill new holes and then clip the ends. It is much easier when the car is up on stands or lifted and the front wheels are off.
