Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Give the guy a chance will you. It is his first post on this site. And if you are going to tell him to use the search function at least tell him what to search for.
PKP - Conrats on the car, I have a 99 C4 too. I am sure once to get the car sorted out you will be very happy. Maybe try searching on ignition switch or maybe someone else will help out. BTW, you will need to post pics of your ride.
does the ign switch feel loose
can you start the car and wiggle/ turn the switch slightly and shut off the headlights and wipers with out the car shutting off? if so its likley a ign switch. if thats not case you may need to take it to a shop
Before you waste too much time get the fault codes read. Many times this type of problem in the ignition but equally many times it is the immobilizer slowly going mad.
I wasted 6 months chasing ghosts before I got the immobilizer changed. Once I did the car was perfectly reliable again.
This may be the problem. Now it wont start at all...
