Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi I am currently driving a 2001 bmw 540, but have got the itch for a porsche c4s or possibly a turbo. My question to all of you is being that I live in Toronto, Canada is it possible to drive either of the two with snow tires through a Canadian winter? Thanks in advance Thomas

POST 2Original post

Absolutely!! I have a C2 in Chicago that I use all year. In the winter I use Blizzak's on 17's and I have driven in over 12" of snow without getting stuck. A C4 or C4S will work even better, but with 60% of the weight over the rear wheels even the C2 works very well in the snow (with the proper tires of course). I'd take my C2 over your 540 in the snow any day of the week. Welcome to Rennlist!!

POST 3Original post

Absolutely (also)! I'm a year round C4 driver in Minnesota. Make sure you get a good set of winter tires, but they run just fine. Switched from a 740i, but I suspect they were similar in the junk. The Porsche is a fabulous winter car.

POST 4Original post

I drive my C2 year round with 615's on them, but I live in CA.

POST 5Original post

snow tires and your golden, they work great till it gets too deep and you start plowing the street.

POST 6Original post

Thomas, I spent 4 years working in Toronto and I didn't find your winters that bad. I agree with the others, put on some snow tires and go. However, I was downtown at the Hilton a few years ago the night you guys got a 19" dump overnight. That was a bit much

POST 7Original post

I used to drive my 01 c4 all year round here in chicago and never had a problem, as the others said, some all season tires and your fine.

POST 8Original post

yeah as long as you stay off the 401 towards london youll be ok (the last time i did the toronto to detroit run was about 11 inchs in 8 hours 17 hours from toronto to detroit..........

POST 9Original post

I'll be driving my C4 this winter on winter tires. My buddy drives his 01 Turbo in the winter with winter tires on 18's no problems here in Colorado.
