Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all that offered advise on the 2000 C4 with the BIG 20 inch wheels. Here's my update on this car: I told the dealer that I was not happy with the wheels (R 285/25-20 and F 235/30-20). Also the car has a shimmy from about 60 to 70 mph. It's ok below 50 and somewhat ok after 70 (I went up to 101 mph). The dealer offered me a $2,000 discount "so that I can buy my own wheels/tires). New price $39,900. Car is a 2000 C4 6sp with 44,000 miles and has leather seats, CF dash, sun roof, Xenon lights, CD, PS, and body and engine bay looks very clean. My questions: 1 - Are the large wheels the cause of the shimmy? One wheel was bent and it was repaired somehow. They said that mechanically the car is fine. 2 - Would this shimmy have hurt the front end by causing extra wear and tear? Of course I have no idea how long these wheels have been on the car. 3 - It seems like I can get OEM replacements from here or Ebay for a decent price. And finally.... What say you guys? Is this a "good" buy? Not too many P cars in my part of this state. One dealer 120 miles away and the other is 250 miles away. Thanks in advance. tsp

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgot to say that the dealer (non Porsche) includes a powertrain warranty for 12 months/12,000 miles. I am also getting a quote for an extended plan - at least to cover one year just in case this car has something wrong. (love the sound of the engine!!!) tsp

I don't know much about 20" on a C4 but your observation of a "repaired" wheel and being "shimmy" between those speeds would concern me. He may give you $2,000 discount but not knowing what the root cause, it may cost your more than that to fix. Pity you're far away from Porsche dealers 'cos if you could spend a bit and get someone from Porsche to certify, that would have been better. My 2 yen worth, Sean
