Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey I'm going to try to replace the water pump myself. Has anyone done this? Do you really need that special tool to support the engine?

POST 2Original post

Yes, you need to swing the engine carrier out of the way so the engine must be supported. What makes you thnik your water pump is fried? You don't need a special tool.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

its still leaking out of the water pump. Right on the top of that bulb coming off the bottom of the pump. I thought it was the hose. But pulled it off slightly, reattached it and it was coming off the top of the bulb thing. How can I do it without that tool?

POST 4Original post

You just need to support the engine slightly to get the carrier out of the way. The prefabbed tool makes it easier, but a little inginuity will work just as well. You can only drain 2 gallons of coolant from the system from the underside plug, so if you do not clamp off the hoses before removing them from the pump, you will have a mess. Not a big problem tho. Have you replaced the factory spring clamps on the hose in question with a good quality screw clampss. The spring clamps are notorious for being too weak. I would do everything possible to locate the EXACT area of the leak before pulling the pump. It could be a part of the gasket which can be repaired without yanking the whole unit.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes I have replaced the spring clamp with a screw clamp. When I wipe the pump dry it comes from the top of that bulb. I can't see it though because I'd have to remove the cats to see it. How do I get the carrier out of the way?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's coming from about where I put the black dot. So I can't exactly see it.

POST 7Original post

It could be a crack in the Water Pump housing or a leaking gasket. Here is the PET drawing of same.
