I suppose I could get a 997 if I could convence him to go to TV repair school instead.

So I sit here right in the middle of 35 keeping the 930 and using the 996 as a driver.

The poll results show a bias toward the younger owners (average age somewhere in the 40s instead of 50s) -- something about who uses the internet?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You make me feel old... 55 and acting 20. Still race shifterkarts with my "kids." Going to race Spec Miata next year- wish it had the power of the GT3!
33 today, but I squeaked in the "Porsche-by-30-years-old" by a few months. I think the vote results are skewed a bit by the medium (Internet). I believe Porsche's own demographics information which pegs the average age as being around 50-55.
i believe the average age to buy a boxster is somewhere in the high 40s, while the 911 is in the low 50s
there are probably even more divisions for each model inside the range, but whatever.
when you're driving the car, you feel 20.
the realization of the dream is great no matter what age.
Just turned 40, but had our first 911 ('86 930 turbo cab) @ 27.
My wife and I had some 914's prior to that. And I've always loved the 928's. Fell in love with my boss' brand new one in '82.
This 996 is just the most amazing Porsche I've ever driven. I am really in love with it! It just drives so fine - no matter how my day is going, taking a little drive puts a huge grin on my face EVERY TIME!
edit: It was late last night and I couldn't complete some basic math!
We had the 930 when I was 27, not 29.
wait a minute, you live in hawaii and no cabriolet? reminds me of the guy in alaska with the cabriolet
hehehe just kidding
PS. on my last trip there, the humidity was enough to make me want to stay in the hotel for the entire trip
Going to be 64 you guys are all just a little older than tricycle motors.
Got my first sports car when I was 21. A 63 Corvette $3933 brand new out the door.
My dad bought a brand new 928s in 1986 or 87. I took it to prom and scared the hell out of my date by getting it up to 100 on the fwy( not a good idea for results later in the evening.)
I was intoxicated by the deep howl of that engine and wish my 996 sounded the same!!!
I was so dissapointed when he later got a BMW850 I as it was just so tame and plain to drive.....
I hope to be ripping it up like you guys when i am into my 50's too..Good job having fun guys, you are only as old as you feel. I feel 60 now as we have 3 kids under 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I often see myself doing this...
trying to keep up with all these kids...

It does seem strange, I agree. But the UV is so intense here, I am fair skinned and I have had a few friends come down with skin cancer. I got a lot of sun yesterday, but I don't do that often. I didn't want to get fried with UV rays every time I drive the car. It would be too tempting to drop the top.
Additionally, the UV can do numbers on the interior and the soft top. I felt that a coupe was the best way to go. It blows such cold air I oftentimes have to keep turning it down... *Homer Simpson voice* "Hmmmmm.... A.C. ... "
Why do people in NY and Minnesota have cabs? Wait - your new '05 turbo cab is probably going to be uber-beechin, so no need to answer that. I'm sure you'll completely enjoy it.
Bought my first high milage 911 when I was 22. Since then I owned a 951, a 930 and now a 996. So I sit here right in the middle of 35 keeping the 930 and using the 996 as a driver.
30--Promised myself in highschool that by the time I turn 30 I would either own or LIVE IN a Porsche--I am fortunate enough to own both a house and the car

I bought my first Porsche, 914, when I was 20 and my first 911, brand new, at 24. They were the best and almost the fastest cars available in those days. I rocked the hot rods on the fwy.
I thought about buying a 997 this year, but you know, old guard and all, just couldn't do it. I'll ltake a close look at the 997 GT3 in a year or so.
3-0 for me as well. Bought my first P car @ 25 (Boxster). Check out this list of cars. I DO get bored easily, but have kept the P cars!

Just about to hit 53.
Let's see how good my memory is today. I have owned:
1964 Mercury Comet - Caliente 4 dr. sedan. 260 ci V8. It was anything but "Caliente".

1970 Dodge Charger 383 ci. V8.
1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (new)
1974 Corvette 350 V8
1971 Fiat 124 Sport Spyder
1975 Porsche 914 1.8l
1976 Oldsmobile Starfire (new)
1977 Volkswagen Scirocco (new)
196? Caldwell Formula Vee
1978 BMW 320i (new)
1974 Ford Pinto (winter beater)
197? Plymouth Valiant (winter beater)
1976 Ford Mustang II V6 (winter beater)
1984 Porsche 944 (new)
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (new)
1989 BMW 530i (new - Switzerland)
1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20v (stateside)

Somewhere in there was a Chevy pick-up truck built in the late 60's that I owned for 4 weeks before truning a tidy profit. Since my BMW 320i days, I have always had a "special" car, and somthing else to drive in midwestern winters.
Cheers,
Interesting. The poll results show a bias toward the younger owners (average age somewhere in the 40s instead of 50s) -- something about who uses the internet?
Also curious, why's the poll closed? I didn't get to vote.
I'm 38 and still don't have my first P car
But a string of company cars got in the way and now I'm only a few years away from my oldest going to college. I suppose I could get a 997 if I could convence him to go to TV repair school instead.
I hate to burst your averages but...
I got my first Porsche at 20. It was a 1952 Club racer with an 8" windshield and side curtains and a VW engine (I think 1100-1200cc), that was in 1958. It was break out car for me, since I was in hot rods. It was not a good car. The next one I had was my 99 Cab after using my daughters 993 coupe.
I just turned 24--I got mine when I was 22, but I work for a kick-*** sales company where the 911 is an incentive if you make top numbers...I didn't make my numbers this year so I have to give it back, hence my post on the stereo system
I'm now in 993 land and consider myself one lucky SOB....buddies from college can't believe it--I have 2 911s in my garage for the next month!
The results of this would have been much different if polled in 2001 or 02 before 996 prices fell hard....997's I think would be mostly over40 now and 996 in the 30 range.
I want to be Moogle and have a few to choose from!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will (hopefully) take delivery of 911S cab next spring, when I'll be 27. i've been jealous of my bro's 968 from wwaaayy back. it's cool to see how people of all ages love their porsches.
