I ran my car this way on the track and it worked fine.

My question to the community, would this speedart spoiler fill the same functional role as the aerokit's?

but may be using a complete kit, same brand, might help your car to have that much of a little bit more grip so that will help you not to spin your car, or loose control.

I say this because 996 cup cars use the standard front with a slightly larger chin spoiler and a very large rear wing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I really like the aerokit cpu II, for an '02 coupe, which carnewal is offering. However, I ran across a picture of Speedart's RS spoiler and am in a quandry. After searching and reading, I understand the aerokit should be purchased in its entirety to maintain highspeed stability.
My question to the community, would this speedart spoiler fill the same functional role as the aerokit's?
thanks,
kp
ask speedart.....
the car that you show us has no sideskirts (which the do have an aerodynamic role)....and we do not know what bumper is on the car.....
porsche states that rear GT3 spoiler should never been fitted alone, without the front GT3 front bumper. but doesn't state anything for the opposite
try not to mix aerodynamic issues......
Do you constantly use the car at over 110MPH? I would not worry about aerodynamic stability unless your a track junkie. The stability issues are a problem at very high speed, so you should be fine 98% of the time.
98% of the time you shoould be fine?????
what happens at that 2%...............
please be carefull....
this is not an mature approach to the prob.....
be serious....
what happens if you are @ 130 mph....on a open right curve....and you have a very strong wing from the left?
what happens if you get this slight amount of air under your car?????
what is you make a maneuver at that speed??????
Dont mess with these issues
I've seen some 996 that have mixed aero parts. I've also thought about what you are proposing.
That rear spoiler would look sweet with a GT2 front spoiler/sideskirts.
_nice rear spoiler, BTW.
If you can't feel some instability in a car then you have no business doing 130MPH much less driving on a race track. Driving fast is the responsibility of the driver to know what is his/her limits. If you're goal is to be a dedicated track junkie then you need matched products.
Speaking from first hand track experience, the big areo issue with a 996 is front end lift that results from getting too much air under the car. In a non-aero kit car this becomes pretty obvious over about 140. I don't see any problem with adding a front spoiler without the back. This would only reduce front end lift. It doesn't really create meaningful down-force. I ran my car this way on the track and it worked fine. What you don't want to do is add a rear wing without the front splitter/spoiler. That would make the front end lift problem much worse.

Driving fast is the responsibility of the driver to know what is his/her limits.
i totally agree.
BUT what happens if aerodynamic issues applies for no reason and suddenly? i.e mixing aerodynamic components.
Well, I would like to track the car so stability at high speeds is not negotiable. I like this spoiler but would not want to go forward with it unless I knew (actually, unless someone knows) that an appropriate front spoiler/bumper & skirts would work with it. ("Work" in a functional sense, not just aesthetic.) ... If the factory aerokit cup ii skirts & front would work with this spoiler, that would be great news to me.
Speedart does have a picture of the front spoiler but I think it might be too much. This is a picture of a different car with skirts & bumper & same spoiler.
harris, just trying to clarify, are you saying that pieces from different kits shouldn't be mixed? This for a car that will be on the track. I don't want to invite potential performance issues for a pretty spoiler that I found
jetskied, it's not a dedicated track car so regular jaunts into aereodynically relevant territory aren't the norm but those are the parameters within which I am confining any changes. Not by any means it's an unattractive car to start with, but I would like to personalize it without sacrificing performance.
I have given a lot of thought to the aerokit cup ii kit but a friend has a gt3 & I don't want to play twin.
thanks for the good input!
If you put the standard aero kit front on you should be able to add the wing in your picture without a problem. I say this because 996 cup cars use the standard front with a slightly larger chin spoiler and a very large rear wing. It seems to work fine for them. Assuming the wing is adjustable, you can always take some wing out if you are pushing in high speed corners but I doubt it will be neccessary.
Good luck.
Jim
what i am trying to say is that you shouldn't mix parts from different brands.
this applies for road use and for track use. in track to be more precise you are more secure driving it in there because you have safety barriers and other features.
what concerns me more is the possibility of mixture to cause you problems on the road, when wet and windy.....
would you imagine?
and one other issue: don't expect mixture of parts to cause your 996 to go like a snake, left to right at high speeds. you won't notice at all!!!!
but may be using a complete kit, same brand, might help your car to have that much of a little bit more grip so that will help you not to spin your car, or loose control. may be your speed will be that high and condition not the appropriates to make it loose it even if you had the proper kit on.
and at this point applies what mentioned before...that it is the drivers...rsponsibility....etc.....
do you want a car look like beast...and not being 100% safe?
in the end of the day only professional testing could proove if all our thoughts are right or not.....
Jim,
Let me pick your brain. I have an 03 c4s that I love taking to DE events. The c4s is essentially the same body/aero combo as a turbo, sans rear spoiler. The nose has the same mini splitter that a stock turbo has, you get the idea.
I recently added a small aftermarket rear spoiler. Do I need to be concerned that the stock turbo style bumper and chin splitter may not be adequate?
Thanks,
Chris
C4S,
Unless you strapped an F1 wing on the back I can't imagine that you would ever have a problem. Also, I hope I didn't make is sound like too much wing in the back is going to make cars suddenly loose control and fly off the track/road. No matter what you do to the car the vast majority of your grip will be mechanical, not aero. The handling problems will be fairly subtle.
And remember, I'm just some guy on the internet. Listen to your mechanic.
