Most likely the ignition switch which is an Audi part.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I have a 99 and the key is stuck in the ignition. I read on another board that this was a known issue and a TSB was issued. I searched on alldata and couldnt find any info on this particluar issue. Any advice and if someone could email me the tsb I would appreciate it. Has this happened to anyone else? How much work and how much money was it to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Most likely the ignition switch which is an Audi part. The part has been revised about 4 times over the years.
I have never seen a Boxster/996 TSB except recently one was issued and Porsche gave up with the switch. Now the entire lock assembly is replaced.
It is has been replaced twice on my 1997 Boxster. There was a recall for some 1997 Boxsters, including mine, but I do not know of any recall for a 996.
Chad with a 1999 996 replaced it himself when he could not get the key out.

ok so I do I need to get new keys made? This sounds like it will be expensive. How much does an ignition switch run? Also can you send me the DIY instructions.
Ash - this happened to me once. Is the steering wheel locked? If it is, try (hard!!!) to rotate the wheel and in the few millimeters that it will move you should simultaneously be able to rotate and remove the key. try it.

The steering wheel isnt locked. The key is stuck in the ignition and at this point it wont even turn back into the position to take it out. It has been sticking for the last week and now it is stuck. If someone could email me the DIY, that would be great. Can any VW or Audi ignition work?
Thanks in advance.
I just did this fix. It is a known problem, there are TSBs on it but out of warranty it is about $140. the good news it is a 10 minute fix. if you are a do it yourselfer the part is about $35 and aparently easy to replace.
No new keys required ...
