I just replaced my bypass pipes with the GHL exhaust and I am very satisfied.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had GHL aftermarket exhaust for a year on my '02 996 coupe, and I feel that the exhaust sound just isn't loud enough. I don't want to go the route of bypass pipes, that's too loud, but other 996's of same year I have heard around town with aftermarket exhausts, some sound much better. Is it that I'm inside the car? I have had friends drive it for me as I watched, and it sounds good, but maybe there is a way to modify the internals of what I have to get a bit more burble? I know some higher end muffler shops that may be able to do it. What do you think, a waste of time and money?
thanks.
I just replaced my bypass pipes with the GHL exhaust and I am very satisfied. However, others seemed to love the sound of my bypass pipes. I just wanted a quieter cabin, otherwise I would still have them on.
I like my GHL just right. If you bought them recently Brian at GHL might help you out with something. I would contact them. I not sure how loud you like it, but most find the by pass too loud, I know the Fabspeed and PSE are a little louder, but it might not be enough for you.
My memory is that most of the rennlist threads say PSE is louder than GHL. I got PSE; at first I thought it was too loud and pondered whether I should have gotten GHL instead, but the PSE breaks in and sounds great now.
Jenner, can you give me info on how to contact GHL on this? I seem to have lost the contact info. I had no idea they offered a "loud" version. Seems like this would fit my fancy.
Thanks.
Bford100,
You can reach GHL at GHLMotorsports.com or [phone removed]. Talk to Brian. I installed the PSE on my 2004 C4S. I personally found the GHL to be quiter than the PSE and the Fabspeed louder than the PSE. For me the PSE was perfect. I have heard that there is a loud version of the GHL, so give it a shot. The GHL's do look great!
Good luck.
Bford100 - I use to think that but have you ever had someone drive your car while you were outside and heard it? It's soooo much louder than what you are hearing inside the car.
The sound is AWESOME!!!! I love my GHL exhaust.
Glad I could help...sorry I wasn't around to get you their contact info, but sounds like you are all set! Let us know what you think. I've been thru stock, fabspeed, bypass pipes and finally settled with the GHL Loud version.
Note the loud version requires a good amount of break in! It will sound very raspy and harsh for the first several hundred miles. Don't let this sway you. It also sounds different cold, than when warmed up.
Thanks Jenner. The guys at GHL were a great help, and they went thru how they build the loud vs. std. and it sounds like this is what I really want. I'll be anxious to get them, delivery is in a week or so! I will keep you posted.
Thanks again!
Installed my GHL system over the weekend. It's the sound that I wanted, deep and throaty. Sounds different from outside the car. I expect the sound to get better after a breakin period. Went in easy, great fit. Great customer service. Great value.
Jenner, I was told by the guys at GHL that the difference in the "loud" build simply does without some of the perforated and insulated internal pipes that are found in the normal build. It was described to me as more of a straight thru system with less baffles. I long for the sound that my 1986 911 turbo had with a Powerhaus exhaust. The burble and pops on deceleration sounded great, with virtually no resonance inside the car during higher speed driving. The standard GHL's that I have had for a year now have been a great inprovement over the stock mufflers, but I just am used to a more enhanced and espressive exhaust note, one that I hope will be achieved with the "loud" version due on my doorstep soon. I guess it's like a fine wine, some like the taste, some don't....
At start up all modern cars idle higher in order to warm up the cats faster in order to given lower emissions. Once the cats are warmed up, the idle drops to normal.
