Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have all the tools I will need I believe but will buy what I dont. I swerved to avoid running into a group of wild turkeys and hit a mailbox. It bent back my radiator. The radiator was bent back and dripping out fluid so I was able to drive it home. I found a used radiator complete with fan. Thats on its way. Is it possible to bend the mounting hardware back to shape? Or better to look for straight salvaged parts. I am a true believer in salvaged yard parts for lots of things. Would you agree that should be the case here? I want to prep and do this job well. Research first then get going. It looks intimidating. Like high pressure hoses and stuff. I dont want something to blow up in my face. locating the black parts is going to be a pain unless someone has a got tip or lead on where to go for these. I can use all the help I can get. Im going to buy the 101 and Bentely book tonight. Thanks in advance for anyone who can offer up some help.

POST 3Original post

I don't see an issue getting a used part for this. I don't feel like these radiators are famous for failure like the other 90% of the car. Nothing should explode or be under high pressure especially if you have the vehicle off and cool when you are working. Just be prepared to catch fluid or it will get everywhere. My cheap solution for this is I grabbed a water heater pan and plug. I think it holds 15 gallons full but I never get close. Then I can transfer to smaller jugs with the drain plug on the pan for disposal. Unless super rusty your hose clamps and everything should be reusable. Remember - pink coolant for replacement!

POST 4Original post

Total system coolant is 6 gallons (probably a little less as you've already lost some). You may as well drain down the entire system before you start so you don't have to worry about flooding your work area with coolant. All the mounts for the radiators are steel, so no problems with straitening them if they're not kinked/cracked. No pressure in the system unless it's hot - which it won't be... The AC condenser is in front of the radiator though - and that is pressurized - maybe it's this that's leaking? If so it'll be oily (not sure of color)...

Wild turkeys? Man, bunch of drunks huh? Seriously, glad you're ok. Now is a perfect time to upgrade that bumper.

POST 6Original post

First, take it all apart and see exactly what's bent/broke. If you can bend a bracket, go for it. Just remember to sand/paint where the paint may have been chipped. Good luck!
