No one can believe the spring rates I am running on my car for the street.

How often, if ever, do you guys change spring rates?

I am tempted to put a set on my 996, but I think I install the ROW M030 instead as I never intend to take the 996 to the track.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone running them on their 1999-2001 996? I'm looking at them for street and the odd track use. If you're running them, what spring rates are working on the street? Thanks.
Scott
Scott,
I am running them on my 993 with 1100 and 1300 lb/in springs. This turns out to be surprisingly streetable. For the money the shocks are amazing. I am tempted to put a set on my 996, but I think I install the ROW M030 instead as I never intend to take the 996 to the track. Let me know if I can give you more detail.
Hank
Scott,
I have the same set up as Hank on my 99 996 track car. Club Sports with 1100/1300 lb springs. I suppose it would be ok on the street but you better have tight fillings. You'd be hell on wheels on the off ramps though.
Jim
i have moton CS on a 04 996c2. don't remember the exact spring rate, but it's definitely not even close to hank or jims. it's streetable, but if you do more street than track, i don't think you want the motons. i run them without upper monoballs, and i can hear the squeaks from the rubber bushings. OTH, i had PSS9 on a 02 996C4S, although not as nice as the motons, it's quieter and better for street use.
jim and hank, do you run yours with monoballs? can you hear much squeaking at all ( i know with loud exhausts and helmet on, you probabaly don't hear much, but i do like to find out if others have any squeaks)... the noises dont bother me much but i just want to make sure it's "normal".
Personally I think Motons are overkill for the street but I make it a habit of not suggesting how others should spend their money. The CS's adjustability for the track makes perfect sense. When properly set up the 996 is so well balanced that you can easily dial in/out understeer or oversteer with only slight changes to compression or rebound. Again, that's great at the track where you spend the weekend going around the same 10-15 corners over and over. I'm not sure what it buys you on the street. If I was setting up an aggressive street 996 I think I would go for either H&Rs or PSS9s.
Mooty,
I have full monoballs as well as several cup and RS suspension pieces. If I could hear it over the straight pipes I'm sure there would be plenty of squeaking going on. I have no illusions of the car ever returning to the street although we have talked about taking the numbers off sometime and going cruising with the hot rods on a Saturday night.
Jim
John,
My shocks are mounted to mono ball uppers. There is no squeaking from my shocks or suspension. Between the tender spring and the main spring are bearings from Smart Racing Products that allow the shock to turn inside the spring without winding it up. My car is a stock 993 RS clone except for the Motons with stock mufflers and cats.
Jim,
For the most part, I agree with you regarding the Motons for the street but only from a cost point of view. I use my car for DEs and the occasional club race. If money were no object, I'd put them on almost any project car including a street car because they work so well. No one can believe the spring rates I am running on my car for the street. The ride is certainly firm, but neither harsh nor punishing. This is because the car is always on the shock. When you encounter a bump there is no huge impact caused by the shock moving through some of its travel before it starts to dampen the motion. I think that feature is one of the attributes that separates an ordinary shock from an extraordinary one.
Hank
I agree that the Motons are overkill for street only application, but this car will see a decent amount of track time. The cost difference between the PSS9 kit and the Moton CS kit is about $1000 for the C2. Not a huge spread.
How often, if ever, do you guys change spring rates? How easy/difficult is it? I'm guessing that if I go with 400/600, that would work fine on the street, but would be too soft for the track, considering your 1100/1300 rates.
I think 400/600 will work great on the track. I would try it. You can always change them if you think it should be stiffer.
Hank,
I haven't used mine on the street so I defer to you on this one.
Jim
Rob, I see from your avatar that you've been to CA Speedway and are in CA. If you're going to be at CA Speedway for the Tribute to Le Mans this weekend, Lex from Moton is going to be there to answer questions just like yours and mine. I'll be there running in the Tribute.
Hopefully I'll meet a few more people running this setup as well. I'll post back here Monday with their feedback.
i wish i could be there, but i'll be on a flight to so. of france for the monaco gp next weekend...
does moton have a website and what co. is lex with?
