My father in law had the dealer set his '03 C4S spoiler set to raise at 85 mph instead of 75 mph, so it can be done.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone had this altered? Lifts at 75mph. Standard setting. Not sure if it's adjustable - cannot be found in PST2, yet the '99 and some other years it was set at 45mph deployment speed, and I thought I saw this on the PST2 once a few years ago. Has anyone changed this, and if so how? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Eric: My father in law had the dealer set his '03 C4S spoiler set to raise at 85 mph instead of 75 mph, so it can be done. I just don't kow how to do it myself.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting. Can you find out which dealer did this and email me? [email removed]

POST 4Original post

Eric, I'm sure any dealer can do that. They must hook it up to the ODBII computer and make the change as easy as that. When I got my C4S Cab the top didn't go down while I was driving. I took it in and they found the setting was for MY02. They changed to MY03 and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it's the same type of setting. Rob

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Rob.... I've been with the dealer three times since delivery with the PST2....problem is, the newer software and the '04 C4S Cab do NOT display this option in any screen. That is why I asked the question. Thanks. I'll check with them again later today and see if we can find any 'year specific' settings.

POST 6Original post

i'm surprised a dealer would change it. it goes up at 75 MPH for a reason, and setting it to go up at a higher speed compromises the stability of the car. i could see a lawsuit out of this. 911 owner: "you set my spoiler to go up at 130 MPH and because of that i lost control of my car and crashed it. now i'm injured and i want $$$$$." dealer: "you asked for us to do that" 911 owner: "yes, but you're the experts on these cars. if it compromised the safety of the car, you should never have done it." dealer: "whoops"

POST 7Original post

funny teflon.... I always thought it was odd that if goes up at 75mph, which is NOT a legal speed pretty much anywhere this side of the Mississippi. So if you're driving down the highway and the spoiler is up, the cop pretty much nows that you've been speeding. I'm sure if was all based on wind tunnel tests, etc, and not US speed limit, just seems weird is all...

POST 8Original post

01 C4 Cab NYC: your excellent logic is exactly why my father-in- rasied his activation speed to 85 mph. He typically drives 75-80 mph on the highway, so now the spoiler stays down and does not tell the world that he's breaking the speed limit. Of course, the spoiler can be rasied manually, so a raised spoiler doesn't necessarily mean that you were driving faster than 75, but it may give a cop reason to notice you, which is never good. Eric: try calling Prestige Porsche in New York-- they raised my father-in law's activation speed.

POST 9Original post

i doubt very many cops at all know that the spoiler on a 996 raises at 75 MPH. and even if they do, what difference does it make? they can't pull you over and say "your spoiler was up. here's a ticket for doing 75 MPH because i know you were going at least that fast at some point since you entered the highway." i'd like to see a cop defend that ticket in court! especially since you can raise and lower it manually... speed limits aside, lots of people track these cars, and porsche knows the spoiler is definitely needed for this. they could have made you put it up manually, but then what happens if you forgot and you're going down the track at 150 MPH and the rear end comes loose...

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Actually, I was looking to LOWER the speed at which it raised. But if the aerodynamics are such an issue, I'll leave it alone for now. Not a biggie, but did think about the old one coming up around 45mph.

POST 11Original post

Call Quentin Eric. Then let me know. I would like to do the same. Best, Cortland

POST 12Original post

Eric: By the way, I should've mentioned that if you like the rear spoiler in the up position, you can put it up manually and then rempove the D-7 fuse and it will stay up all of the time. See https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hreadid=124105

POST 13Original post

The old C4s also had the spoiler not go back down until practically in the single mph digits. I noticed this on several p-car drives. My 04 C4S has the spoiler go up at 75 mph, and go back down at 36 mph.

POST 14Original post

...IF your speedo is accurate. Mine is 5-10% fast, and I've heard that this is true of most late model p-cars. So my spoiler goes up when I'm actually only going 65-70.

POST 16Original post

How much downforce does the spoiler truly provide? From feeling it I wouldn't say very much. I thought I read somewhere it's mostly for cooling?
