I put in the Eclipse 5 ch amp and changed the speakers to Boston Acoustic Pro in the origional bose grilles, and building a replacement box in the bose sub place with 4 B.A.Pro 6.5 woofers.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had a non-screen based NAV in the Audi S4, and I'm presuming that the Traffic Pro is the exact same thing ,and it worked really well.
Neat! which deck did you end up going with and did you get the lastest nav dvd drive? How much did you end up dropping etc? Are you doing any other audio upgrades at the same time? I am jealous!
I'm torn between the Alpine Screen based Nav (with separate NAV unit only, no HU), and something like Becker Traffic Pro. Just trying to figure out whether I need basic navigational abilities, or a full blown distraction like the LCD screen.

One thing that the screen based nav offers is being able to see what's around your position, which something like the Traffic Pro cannot provide.
Any input?
I am currently buying a C4S and also thinking of putting in an Alpine Nav system. For those of you that have done it have you had an issues with the system and how well or not it has performed? Please let me know as I am looking for a nav system that works very well. Thank you for any and all assistance.
no one has mentioned Pioneer. I have their top of line Nav unit in my Ford Truck and it rocks. Voice recognition, touchscreen, and phone # lookup are just a few of the awesome features.
To make it even better, Reus has a way to custom install the Pioneer Nav in Porsches so it literally looks like it rolled off the assembly line that way!
With all of these aftermarket NAV installs, does the OBC still work on the 02 + 's? I like some aspects of the OBC and don't want to lose it for a stereo.

I bought a 04 C4S last month. Have been doing complete new stereo system. I got the newest Eclipse all in one unit. AVN 2454. Stationary Wide screen - Touch Screen, w/ CD, CD changer, AM, FM, DVD, NAV (and not released yet Sirus). Seems like the best thing going. It is a double DIN size unit. The screen tilts and lowers completely down to reveal CD and DVD slots. Also Eclipse 5 ch amp on the forward face of gas tank. Very satisfactory so far. All works and functions perfectly. Unit about $3K and amp $400. Plus my 4 weeks labor. Also retrofiting all Boston Acoustics Pro spk and 4 6" subs where bose was.
I didn't mean to not include other nav systems. I just knew of Alpine's system. If anyone has any info on any other systems and what they think of the nav system and how accurate it is and easy to use. Please let me know as I am looking for a system to put in my 04 C4S. Thank you
im getting the pioneer in my dodge ram..its better than the alpine and has car funtions too like 0 to 60, G force ,gyro, speeds, and other cool stuff . you should get it. NAV alone is useless unless you do alot of miles all over the place. pioneer has more functions

I just bought a stand-alone NAV system made by Garmin. Garmin has two models: model 2610 costs about $700. This model uses a card to store the maps. Depending on the size of the card, you can store more or less information. The maps can be downloaded on line. For about $1k, model 2620 uses a hard drive that stores the entire USA and Canada.
Magellan also sells stand-alone systems that work very well (Magellan developed NeverLost for Hertz Car Rental).
The nice thing about these units is that they can be used in different cars. The disadvantage is that they would not look as built-in. These units use a touch screen (Garmin does, not sure about Magellan), give you voice commands and are fairly accurate.
FWIW, I was driving a loaner Cayenne with factory NAV and several times my stand-alone Garmin NAV system would show me a better way to get back home.
I'd like to see that installation. I'd like to go a bit over the top (and that's to suppose that a complete, McIntosh system with fibre optical signal connects isn't at least approaching over the top) and a dvd-nav and theatre system is appealing. Still "dreaming" at this stage, but it's on the to-do list for the car.
There's always the add-on G-Tech, which seems to work really well and handles a lap of the track with some interesting results.
I like the idea of data logging, but I'd like to go to a purpose-built product. It's just a matter of time before the GPS units tie in with the data acquisition products at a price point for enthusiasts -- instead of the high-end pro/semi-pro racer stuff.
It was professionally done by someone in Los Angeles. They made a custom enclosure of sorts to hold the monitor in the cubby. If you are interested in more information, I'd be happy to give you the name and number of the installer.
To add to my post...
I have had my Alpine Nav for two years now without a single ounce of trouble. It is always right (damn her!)...even when I think she is wrong. I ripped out PCMII from my Carrera to install this nav I liked it so much. I highly recommend it for ease of use, intuitive functionality and looks.
As far as losing OBC, I didn't, not entirely. All functions remained except those that were integrated with my PCMII. So if you don't have PCMII I would assume it wouldn't be a problem.
Picking my 996 up today from

will post pics of their install of my Pioneer AVIC-N1, I changed my mind on the Alpine after seeing the Pioneer stuff...
Cheers
Holy Smokes...what an awesome piece of equipment....the shop that installed it and did my windows is owned by Morris Peterson who plays for the Toronto Raptors, I spent some time with him looking at his cars before they wheeled mine out...wow...I am impressed...I drove a friend home while she watched MI:2 , the sound is incredible...the NAV is incredible, the touch screen is incredible..you get the idea...I think I'll get the camera installed so I can see who is coming up behind me when my Targa top is down
Anyone in Toronto should have a look at

for any electronics, wheels or body mods...some of the work they have done is unbelieveable....
I'll post pics as soon as I stop playing with the new AVIC-N1...
Just to share my experineces with you guys.
Last week I had a Kenwood DV3200 SatNav and LZ651W multimedia player installed in my 996 TT.
The result I think is fantastic, giving me Satnav, TV,DVD,MP3,CD and 6 disk autochanger
A pic is attached
That looks awesome does any one know where i can get a trim ring that fits around the display? Is this a custom ring or can it be bought? How much custom work is there to get the display in? and can you revert to factory after when you sell the car?
Hi TitanL9
The project started because I wanted to improve on the standard SatNav that was part of the PCM1 that was installed in the car. As I travel across Europe several times a year I objected to paying 250.00 per CD per country. My local In-Car Sound expert showed me the Kenwood system, as it is the first in the UK to have a double-DIN fitting screen, which was an ideal replacement for the Porsche fitment. The rest followed...!
Don't get me wrong, I use my car as it was designed to be used. I participate in several track days, and the car is significantly more powerful than the stock 996 Turbo. (505BHP compared to 420BHP) However the car is also my day to day transport (As Pcars are also designed to be) I drive in excess of 15,000 miles per year in it and enjoy listening to a good sound system. I am also a pragmatist, I live in the UK and traffic congestion is often a problem. Only last night I was caught in a traffic jam on my local motorway for 30 mins, and managed to watch TV whilst waiting for the traffic to move again.
Hi Porschecanada
The silver surround is part of the unit, it contains some of the control buttons.
The original loom for the PCM is still in the car, so yes theoretically I can re-fit the old PCM1. However I sold it on ebay last week to recoup some of the cost of the new system
LVDell - Reus Systems is one of the premier aftermarket car audio companies in the world.
His speakers & amps are custom made to his specs and when the entire package comes together with a high quality audio source, the result is breathtaking. Far better than focals, McIntosh, etc...

Sorry I took so long. Family sickness, etc. I have installed the Eclipse AVN 2454 in a 04 C4S. It has AM, FM, CD, CD changer, DVD, Nav, (soon released Sirius). Wide screen, Touch screen, Tilt screen. Double DIN size one piece unit. It was the best choice I could find. I like it a lot and seems to be working great. I put in the Eclipse 5 ch amp and changed the speakers to Boston Acoustic Pro in the origional bose grilles, and building a replacement box in the bose sub place with 4 B.A.Pro 6.5 woofers. You can email me for further info and pictures if needed.

and I will soon have all the origional radio, amp, bose speakers drivers, and sub box to sell.
